Hello guys. I'm just starting to get back into playing with Amiga stuff - spurred on by the recent accquisition of some A1000's, another A2000, and a 4000, along with a fair amount of expansion parts for the A1000. I'm sure I'm going to have some questions about that stuff, since this is my first foray into the Amiga 1000 terrain... I mostly was a 2000/3000 guy...

Anyway, a little about myself, I'm in upstate NY, USA, and I'm a computer/electronic hobbyist. I collect old computers - primarily minicomputers and other "large iron", but I've always loved microcomputers as well, especially the Apple II. I got into the Amiga late, with a 3000, and used it until it suddenly stopped working one day - black screen, totally dead. I'll have to drag that machine out, maybe some of the knowledgeable people here can help me resurrect it. I'm very good with a soldering iron, I just don't know the intricacies of Amiga hardware, custom chips, etc.

Anyway, glad to be on board here, looks like a fun community.

Welcome, welcome, welcome !

I think that the best way to spend your time in this hobby is to collect as much as possible in the beginning.

You have done a great job finding this stuff. Let's make them work!

Hehe. Yeah, if there is one thing I'm good at, it's accumulating stuff. I had Amigas before (2000, 3000, and a couple of 500's), but this recent haul is a *lot* of stuff. I should really take a picture, but I now have a nice stack of A1000's. I plugged a couple of them in, and the ones I've tested do work. I need to take the covers off all of them to check for upgrades.

The 4000 I received with the pile was in pieces - cover and front panel off, drives out, etc. I put it all back together and got it working - one of the spacers on the CyberStorm MKIII wasn't seated right, and the machine just acted dead. Reseating the board fixed it. And, it's a good thing I kept all those random PC parts, I still have a very large cardboard box full of 72 pin SIMMS. A few minutes of digging netted me four 32MB SIMMS that work perfectly in the CyberStorm. At the moment I'm missing the bracket that holds the hard disk in the 4000, I'll have to fabricate something.

Well, after much fiddling around and tracking down drivers and software, I have managed to get the 4000 running, and up on the 'net. I'm posting this now from iBrowse. It leaves a bit to be desired in the rendering department, but it does work.
