Hi All,
I have had an old/retro computer hobby since about the late 1990's. My first real retro project was a 386DX40 (hence my user name) that I started around 1999. I still have it and it still works! These days, my hobby still centers around 90's era PC tech... I will admit I am a 3Dfx junkie. One of my biggest regrets is selling my Voodoo5 that I had bought brand new. Anyway, I primarily joined up to buy PC parts. When I'm not tinkering with computers, you'll find me either skydiving or doing eye exams (to support both hobbies!).

Welcome to AmiBay! My sister lives in Albuquerque! The next time I come, I'll be bringing my skydiving gear so we should get together and jump! My brother-in-law has his own balloon now so I'll definitely be jumping that while I'm there. :)

Oh, I like old computers too. :P

Sounds good to me! Balloon jumps are a blast. In fact, the club here does an annual balloon jump day (with a large group of balloons) and it just so happens to be coming up on Saturday, Jan. 21! Do you know if your in-law flies for that event?

I know that a guy my brother-in-law went through balloon training with is an instructor at the DZ and got his balloon pilot's license in order to take up jumpers. This guy did ground crew for us when I was there early 2016 and my mom and I went up in the balloon. That was my first time in a balloon but I didn't have my gear so I couldn't jump. Still haven't jumped one but really want to! I've done lots of aircraft but the closest thing I've done to a balloon is a helicopter. Not the same but not much air speed when you leave.

Not sure if he'll be helping out at that event. His balloon is too small to take up many jumpers. Do they tether the balloons for these events or do they just chase with jumpers to replace those who got out?

Wish I could be there for your upcoming event! It's probably going to be later this year before I get that way again. I was thinking about driving next time I went and stop at DZs along the way. Of course, that's 2 days of driving each way so I will probably just fly. :)

I'll be sure to send you a PM when I'll be heading that way.

The guy you're talking about sounds like Brian H :D.
No tethers on the balloons. We've always had enough balloonists to take everyone that wanted to make a jump. We'll try to launch from somewhere that puts the exit over the DZ, but that rarely works out perfectly. Thankfully, chase crews and volunteers will follow and pick everyone up!

That name sounds correct. My brother-in-law is Mike H. Not related to Brian. :D

Welcome again! I hope you find some great retro gear here.
