Hi,
Let me quickly introduce myself as somebody with an interest in retro computing... My first computer was actually a gaming console, the Coleco Vision. After a year of playing games on it, must have been 12 or so around that time, I had the opportunity to buy a real computer. We went back to the shop where we bought the Coleco. The shop owner talked us into buying an expansion module for the Coleco, the ADAM. Did I know it was utterly crap? But I was so obsessed with its 80KB of RAM that I choose that one instead of a C64 with only 64KB of RAM. I used the ADAM a few years and was basically forced to write my own games. In hindsight not a bad educational move, but I did miss out on all the cool games and stuff for the C64.
When I was around 16 year I had saved enough money to buy a C64. A few years later I had earned some money during the summer to buy me an amiga 500. Next came an A1200 etc...
Anyhow, I still have my first computer in a box somewhere.. ready for restoration I guess. And I actually never really stopped playing with the C64. I still write some programs for it and I thinker with its hardware.
