Hi Amibay!

I've just returned to my Amiga archives to check on the health of my A3000UX and CD32.
It's great to see all my old HDD image boot in UAE, now it's time to refurbish and upgrade them
to the specs I could only dream of 18 years ago.
A capacitor kit has been ordered for the CD32 to get some gaming underway while I
investigate what is available for the A3000UX.
If you own a UX and managed to have it booting Unix I'd love to hear about it.

Welcome mate.
Lots of people in Brisbane area and a very dynamic Amiga group there.
Im on the Gold Coast...

Welcome!

Where in QLD are you based?

If you're in the SE you should bring it along to a Amiga Retro Brisbane meetup sometime :)

Thanks quantum8.

Brisbane, minutes from one of the south side previous meets. I've made it to two.
I'm waiting on some preservation parts for the A3000UX and a TF330 has now been ordered for the CD32.
I'm now suffering the turmoil of all the things I've forgotten.

G'day from Perth.

Over here on our Perth Amiga group on Facebook, we've been talking about a meet up event, but it just hasn't kicked off the ground.
Could perhaps throw up some pics of the 3000UX? A rare bit of kit that!!

Hi matt020! Thanks for the greets!

I'll do that as soon as I can, I'm sure I saw a photo booth here. I suppose that's the spot to post some images.

Awesome, we've probably talked before then!

Thanks quantum8.

Half the fun is re-learning, isn't it?

Did you get the cap kit locally?? Or from overseas? I have a stack of amigas I should recap...

A1200s, A600s and CD32s are the machines on which a recap is a must. Most of the time the other systems are ok, a recap is still a good idea as after a couple of decades there is probably not a lot of life left but they should be able to enjoy the systems a bit longer before spending the money on a recap.

Hi jabsy,

I order from OS supplier, it took a while to find one with only 100% of the item cost on freight.
I'll pm the URL.

Hi Dellamorte,

yes it is a good idea to recap to avoid any damage. Have you done it, any tips?

I just removed did the A3000UX battery. I had a 5mm x 8mm oval patch of corrosion.
I used Jaycar circuit board cleaner, because it softens the Amiga circuit board lacquer.
Using a cotton tip cleaner, I wet it over and over until it rubbed though the lacquer,
when I could see the copper I resealed it with clear nail polish.

Main tip for recapping is like anything, take your time. Use a hot air gun on the SMD caps, kapton tape is your friend.
