Hi, my name is Seb and I'm from The Netherlands.
My computing adventure started in the eighties with the Apple ][e, MSX 1 and MSX 2 as family computers. My first computer was a ZX Spectrum+ that I bought from a cousin after I borrowed the money required from my parents. Since I liked hooking up LEDs and whatnot to the interface on the back (like driving LEDs in Lego models, which didn't always go as planned) I had more than one
I did have a MSX 2+ (Philips VG8235) after that and my PC journey started in 1993 with a 80286 w/ 1 MB. As upgrades were expensive, I had to trade in the mainboard when I wanted to buy a 386DX40 mainboard with 4 MB of ram. I had this computer for a long time and I jumped from that to a Pentium 60, never had a 486. I remember having a P133 and a P200MMX (which I still have to this day - it sits in the case that housed the 286 and 386 earlier).
When the P133 was my daily driver I was running a multiline BBS with two physical nodes (ISDN and analog) and a Novell 3.12 server. Great times.
Last year I converted a Hayes Optima modem to a wifi version with the board offered from https://tempestfpga.com/retromodem/ (hope that posting this link is allowed, I'm not affiliated - it was a fun project and I use for my BBSing needs these days).
These days I'm trying to collect what I owned earlier and what had a lot of impact when I was a kid. I like to max out the systems that I have, like putting 32MB in a 386DX40 simply 'because I can' and to see what it's like
I never owned an Amiga (couldn't afford one before jumping to PC), but I might be curious enough to try one out to see what I missed out on in my youth
I'm also looking at stuff that I was using when I started working, like a Compaq Deskpro EN SFF pIII. I was lucky enough to trade some of my retro equipment with another member for it, so that one is sitting on the dinner table now. As it's a Small Form Factor device, it is tolerated and I'm not confined to the mancave, haha.
Since I like the size I'll be looking for more of them, the holy grail being one with a Nvidia RIVA TNT (NV4) chip (16MB VRAM).
I have a background in Windows administration in large enviroments, but traded that back in 2002 for networking, security, Linux and telecom.
Looking forward to interact with members here and trade to maintain a nice personal collection!
