Good Morning, Day, Afternoon or Evening,

I'm new, obviously, and it was suggested that I stop here and say hello. My name is Daniel, I'm a network engineer for two Catholic schools and my retro hobby is collecting stuff for the IBM PC, XT, or the AT which I affectionately call System/1 Computers.

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel!

Welcome to AmiBay! There aren't too many people here that collect PC stuff, but I'm working on a few systems for my collection. I recently did a Commodore PC10-III XT computer upgrade and I'm really enjoying it. I hope to get one of the IBM XTs because they have more slots. Hopefully we can bring more PC collectors here as well. :D

If you really live in Raleigh you live close to the new heart of what was once IBM's PC operations. Lenovo has it now, but the operation and design center is in Morrisville. :) Although the old stuff was all done down in Boca Raton, FL.

You are correct! I worked at the PC Division before they were sold off to Lenovo. My last job there was at the Cross Brand Certification Center (CBCC). Our group created customized Windows images for IBM customers that included all the applications they wanted tested and pre-installed on new computers that were shipped to them. This allowed them to take a new computer out of the box and start it up with their software already installed. :)

I left there to go to Nortel Networks. The first year I was there was great, then their downward spiral in 2001.
