Hello, my name is Benjamin and I was born in May 1980. I live in Wolfsburg in Germany. Some of you may know the city as the home of Volkswagen.
I got my Amiga 500 for Christmas 1987 (when I was just 7 years old). I had originally planned to get a Commodore 64, but after the Amiga came onto the market, my parents decided to give me the 500 as a present. It became the Amiga Power Pack. I used the Amiga until 1997, when my dad and I bought our first PC together and the Amiga was stored in the cellar, where it unfortunately fell victim to a fire a few years later. I was probably one of the few people on this planet who didn't own any pirated copies. My dad was very strict and only gave me blank disks for memory disks. Getting him to make a backup copy of Monkey Island, as recommended in the manual, took an extremely long time. Due to all these circumstances, I only had original games, which must have been almost 100 in the end. Because the games were so expensive, I played them all the longer!
Since the release of the A500mini, I've been in full Amiga fever again and have played quite a few games on it. This is how I became aware of WHDLOAD. The next step was then in April 2023 an Amiga500, which was equipped with a turbo card and CF card reader and on which I then installed a Workbench 3.1.4 with WHDLOAD. A few months later followed an Amiga 1200, which I first equipped with a Terrible Fire 1230 and CF card and later replaced the TF with a PiStorm32lite. In the meantime, the 500 also received an RGB2HDMI upgrade.
What was still missing? Exactly, original games. At first I only wanted the Lucasfilm Games Adventures. But the prices in 2023 were absolute horror. So first I bought a few other cool games from back then that I had as a child and so the collection grew. In between, there were also a few bargains here and there when it came to Lucas games. I now have almost 150 boxes.
(Spoiler: I have all the LucasFilm Games games together, even in the German box).
I now make my own boxes for games for which there was never a box (cover disk games etc.), which has become a real hobby of mine. For example, I have built boxes for Quik&Silva, Dungeons of Avalon and Metal Law.
That's it from me for now :)

Welcome to Amibay, Benjamin!

The boxes look great, and so does your Amiga 1200, love the keys, did you dye them yourself?

And thanks for sharing the awesome retro pic!

Hello and thank you very much.
The 1200 was made by someone who does this commercially here in Germany. I can't tell you the exact procedure.
Thank GOD my sister actually found the picture of me on the Amiga this year in an old photo album. I always thought there were none from back then. The photo is from 1993. I'm playing Lemmings, it was in the run-up to Christmas and my shoes are actually the absolute highlight ;) Incidentally, the printer was a Mannesmann Tally MT81 nine-needle black and white printer, of course with the endless paper that was common back then

😃 I didn't spot the Shoes or were they Slippers, (also known as slips-ons)?

Oh yeah, my 1966 Beetle I had at uni had the Wolfsburg badge! (Wish I still had it.)

Welcome, what a beautiful collection!

Hi, very nice story ! Are you using Translationen? Iam also born in 1980 in NRW. Usually Amiga fanboys are older, so i‘m allways happy to find someone my age.
Gruß
Christoph

Hi Ben and welcome to Amibay. Nice story, thanks for sharing it with us. Last photo is a historical moment of every Amiga user. I have also one when I was approx. 10-12 years old in front of my A500 back then. Priceless.

Yep, used translation als these long texts are easier to write in german and then translate with deepl.com to english :) Yeah, I also know a lot more older people addicted to the Amiga. A good friend of mine is the programmer of the ASM game. and all these people are a few years older :)for this one here I didn't use a translator

oh yes, lot's of terrible managment decisions led to this actual situation . I am working for VW since 1996 so it's very difficult at the moment... very many people are afraid and concerned about their future!
