Hello everyone, I have introduced myself once! Just wanted to send another introduction out. As this is only my second time on Amibay!

So far it is an Amazing bunch. As I am a right sided brain, the level of concisousness I have tells me that people with real heart and love for the hobby do exist here, more than any place online.

Right not I have an Amiga A4000/40 with a 030 processor board. Two Meg chip ram and 16 meg Fast Ram...

Seeking some advice and upgrades. Luckily just found an Ethernet card from a local Amiga Guru.. Though I am new here my computer wisdom spans over 25 years. Right now Amiga is a newer challenge to me. As I was an original A500 owner in the day. Now for one year I have been back into the hobby. My goals are to stay original. Not seeking to go past an O60. Not interested in PPC. Only the highest level of original Amiga hardware and software I can obtain.

Currently, with my years of experience in programming, hardware repair, it's not all that easy. Even with a solid year of Amiga on my back now.
It occured to me that I have never installed AmigaOS3.9, with Boing Bag 1&2. It's been impossible for me to do. With a month of back and forth !
Loaded right now with Classic Wb ADVSP! That seems to work great! Can anyone tell me the advantages of 3.9? Why I should install it? Or is Classic Wb ADVSP fine. Since I own Original paid for item only! Whdload key paid for, Amiga Forever two versions paid for. This is important to help keep the hobby alive. Tried using the 3X version of Amiga on my computer. It works well. But I am not sure if that is a turbo version of 3.9? Should I stick with that?

Excuse me if I make another posting asking this. Below is a photo of my Amiga just taken now. Wanted to introduce myself. Show my goals are to expand my system to the top of what a vintage Amiga can be for historical purposes. Maybe one day when I get bored I may goto PPC. But historical preservation is my main goal. Original stuff is the most fun. Thanks and hello all, seeking new friends most importantly.:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::readit:

SO MUCH TO LEARN AFTER 25 YEARS OF COMPUTER GEEKERY !!! :help:

Welcome to AmiBay! You'll find plenty of friendly, helpful people here. It's really great to see more members on this side of the world. :)

welcome, nice shrine u got there, Mary, that fat git buddha, a saturn 5 and an amiga A4000

Thank you all for the very kind welcome. Amiga I find to be meditation for those whom like myself suffer with anxiety! That shrine with candles lit is to remind me of my past. Take me away from reality! One thing this hobby can help you do is relax. If you appreciate what you have and relax. Building your collection slow is something I believe to be imperative for the beginner.
Driving yourself mad purchasing accellerators and cards can cause you financial grief!
Take it slow and have fun, if anyone could answer my question about installing of AmigaOS3.9. It's benefits and why I should do it. Please feel free to help.. Thank you all, please friend me..

Welcome mate but why all this redish text OMG my eyes hurt :D

For some info about the changes and what every version of Workbench as just visit: http://www.gregdonner.org/workbench/

After that, you can decide what to do :)

OS3.1 is a classic perfect workbench system that with some patches it's perfect for everyday usage. Since I see you use the awesome ClassicWB (AdvSp) I'd suggest to stick with it since it has loads of patches and useful utilities, and it's a system that runs very well and fast. Unless you want in the future to buff your Amiga more (with RTG Graphics, Sound Cards etc etc...)

If you want OS3.9, you can also try ClassicWB 3.9 that is a mixture of an OS3.9+BB2 installation along with ClassicWB goodies. To be able to install it easily you need to have OS3.9 installed under WinUAE (check this guide of the whole procedure to get you started: http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online.de/os39uae.html).

If you want further info, we'll gladly help ya out. Just try and do a bit of research though since many answers of your may already been answered in the past!

I wish you a pleasant stay in this wonderful forum \o/

Ok, I agree, comic sans is just lame. Since we are all one conciousness, I have decided to become one with Amibay! Each of us are different, so I will have to find my own style to express.. Long as I do it without blinding everyones eyes. You guys need to invest in 120hz monitor like mine.

Much easier on the eyes,...:bowdown:

Thank you, I have read all of that, I have searched this site for a resolve to my issue. Though nothing has helped. What I was curious about is does anyone see an advantage to me going to Classic WB AmigaOS3.9?

Or shall I just stick with ADVSP? That's really the question. My ethernet card is in. Soon I shall be surfing.. What to do? Plus, I just can't install it, tried for a few weeks, hours upon hours... What the hell am I doing wrong?

Well for one, you need to relax, these things do not normally happen overnight.

take some time and read some guides on here that have done this. to my mind the best way to install OS3.9 is with ClassicWorkbench 3.9 on WinUAE. from here you can customize and transfer this data when you are happy with the build.

I know some of the guys on here have done a CW39 guide so have a search - also there is a guide to how on EAB and classicwb.abime.net

Yes, thank you for reminding me to relax. It's something that does take time. Getting as far as I am took nearly a year. Though it seems I am constantly caught up in the challenge of problem solving. One does from time to time need to take time away from the problems he has himself already solved. Step back and pat one's self on the back.

Enjoy what you have accomplished and have fun with that. Rather than obsessing over , " MORE." Which is exactly what another one of my postings is about. Thanks for the insight O' Amiga Guru

One quick word, I do not get on here every day. It probably will be a once a week thing. So excuse if I seem excited or antsy.. Many people of course are here day in and day out. Which is great! Unfortunately, to me personally... The Hobby of Amiga is not a social hobby.

It's based on the fact I can get away from everyone. So everything up to know has been completely learned on my own. Socializing on sites much to long......... My experience is finding just what I have said before. People whom are obsessed. That is not a blow at anyone here. That is based on my experience in the world of collectors.

Years and years I tried justifying it in every hobby. Toys, Arcade Machines, Apple computers.. good God.. Those guys are scary!
They think they own Apple. The Toy guilds had something called the Mego Mafia.. lmao... My personal prefernce is to visit on occasion.

Discovering on ones own, is the largest confidence builder. A lil help, we all need now and then..

One thing this hobby can help you do is relax.

Sometimes. Other times it can drive you up the f:censored:king wall! "You powered on five minutes ago, why aren't you working now?!?!?" and soforth.

Still, taking a battered old Amiga and restoring it to working order can be really satisfying and rewarding. :-)

i wouldn't know, it's never happened!:p

lol, nah been up the wall and round the bend loads!

it's the working amiga bit i've never seen, seriously i've never had an amiga i've been happy with, there has always been something missing or discoloured or not quite right.....

You see, this is very strange to me. I have had issues with my Amiga computers and I expect that I will continue to do so as time progresses, as things age, but I've always been happy with my amiga computers, no matter how yellow, busted up, or strange functioning that they may be.
