Hey friends,

Ideally I'd love to hear from folks that have one of the Elbox A4000 tower kits, since that's what I intend to try to build :)

Basically, I want to know if folks have a good DIY solution to towerizing an A4000D in order to use more Mediator slots? The desktop A4000D case with a PPC PCI card, Voodoo3, etc., not only lacks a sufficient amount of open slots to Do Everything I Want(tm) but also has some pretty significant issues keeping cool.

What I imagine is something along these lines - someone with a good Elbox case can help figure out dimensions for doing a backplate, where to put standoffs for the mobo, etc? Possibly we can figure out what cases Elbox actually sourced to make their own custom setups and rebrand them? Does anyone know what they used?

Thanks!

I have two A4K tower conversion on is the Power Computing version of the original Elbox Case and a Micronik tower conversion which utilizes a Micronik Zorro busboard

What would you like to know without my having to fully strip my machine down

Just built my first A4KD in a Micronik Tower, but ended up using the 6960 Zorro 3 busboard. Something I’ve learnt during the build phase. The new Elbox Mark IV Tower busboard seems picky when I tried to install a PicassoIV RTG board with the Video slot adapter. I.e got no native Amiga Picture output. When used with the Micronik board, no issues what so ever.
Just remember that you may have to play around with card assignments As well. Elbox Daughter busboards are well known for this. Learnt this the hard way when I first started building A1200 Tower setups. You also have more to do with an Elbox setup as you have to install PCI.Library and other drivers from Elbox.
If you can, make sure you get a busboard that will align with the PCI backplane or you will have a bad time of it…
Getting hold of a 4K Tower is also a hard feat.

Not sure if this is any help. Someone is now selling the same Micronik case with a Rev 4 Zorro 3 Busboard in the Amiga For sale section. Will save you messing about with Making a case.
