Ok here goes,

A1200 3.1
32gb Sd-Hdd.
Blizzard 1230 MkII with 64mb ram,
running Classic WB 3.1
PFS 3.0
43.24 (tried a few) scsi.device (to enable DH1,DH2 large partitions)

My issue is,

If I use "CPU fastrom" in my startup-sequence before loadmodule scsi.device all is OK and I boot Workbench no issues and all is well, all partitions work fine, eveything is good.
I get good speed on Blizzard 030/50 (full with MMU), HDD gives a respectable 2.8mb/s and an updated check4GB (from fitzsteve how to thread) says all is ok.

so what my problem.

"cpu fastrom" causes a line of text to show in the cli window during boot which then of-course causes the popup "intuition is attempting to reset the Workbench screen", I know its just one mouse click and all is ok but annoying.

If I omit the "cpu fastrom" once "loadmodule scsi.device" is run for the 2nd time "1st to install into ram" I get a guru.
if I use "cpu fastrom >NIL:" I get a guru
if I eneable maprom on the blizzard and use "bkick" i get a guru
if I disable "loadmodule scsi.device" then workbench boots no issues but of-course the large partitions appear as "non:dos"

is there any way to use "cpu fastrom" and not have it type a line of text like using ">NIL:", all the switches I see dont use a "QUIET" but just options for cache etc.

another thing so I know the maprom jumper is working, with jumper on "disabled" Bkick = no blizzard or maprom disabled, with jumper off bkick just doesnt say anything suggesting it detects the maprom function,

weather i use bkick or not the "avail" after a "boot no statup" gives the same 560k fast ram usage, if I then type "cpu fastrom" fast ram usage goes over 1mb.

in workbench without "cpu fastrom" and "loadmodule scsi.device" in sysinfo "MMU = disabled"
in workbench with "cpu fastrom" and "loadmodule scsi.device" in sysinfo "MMU = In Use"

if I use "bkick then "cpu fastrom" I get a red screen.

this is not a big issue just a niggle why "cpu fastrom" has to blurt the line "system: 68030 FastROM (INST: Cache NoBurst) (DATA: NoCache NoBurst)" in a Cli window at boot up.

thanks for reading my dribble :D

How about instead of >NIL: you use a dummy file to redirect output to?

cpu fastrom >[volumename:]dummy.txt

Maybe a solution would be to use Blizkick to load a 3.1 rom image with the updated scsi.device inside and skip the load module method. I can help you with this tomorrow.

On my A1200 I use Blizkick to load in my 3.9 rom as I use cwb 3.9 and it works great I have 2x 8gb cf's now.

Thanks Steve, I'm probably just being fussy (1 mouse click), It would be interesting to see if the MKII Blizzard supports the Blizkick command, is Bkick (from aminet) then same file ?

So I guess I should disable the maprom function on the Blizzard and use Blizkick (is this Bkick) to send a custom rom image to fastram ?, this would then not need the loadmodule command but still induce a double boot ? (1 to load the custom ROM and the 2nd to actually boot the system ?)

If indeed this works would it be best if someone here could Burn custom roms to prevent double booting as long as I had proof I owned official 3.1 roms ?

seems a lot of effort for 1 mouse click :D

So I take it the file redirection method doesn't work?

sorry my A1200 was unplugged last night, tried this morning and works :D thanks.

still interested in a modified ROM and how to do it.

Hi Mate,

If I had an issue like this I would solve it, there's nothing more annoying for me than closing popups like this during boot so it is worth the little effort IMHO.

You could have a custom Rom burned, that would be a solution but the Blizkick method works perfectly on my 1260 and before that my 1230 MkIV. However according to the guide it should work with all Blizzard and Cyberstorm Cards, I assume you need to leave the Maprom jumper in place (mine is) Note that on the guide it says Mk1 and MkII Blizzard were not tested.

This is the one I'm using:

http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/BlizKick

You could try commenting out the loadmodule declaration in the startup sequence from Classic Workbench and use Blizkick to load in the SCSI device since it can load in extra modules, it's all explained in the guide. I use it for loading in my HSMath Libs in addition to the OS3.9 Rom (3.1 Rom with BB2 updates)
