Hello eveyone,

I am David, originally from the UK but currently living in Switzerland. My computer journey stared out on my Dad's Amstrad PCW 8256, mainly helping him format reports for work, but my first computer was a Spectrum +2A. I remember spending hours typing out BASIC programs from magazines, and writing a few of my own. I was very fond of it, until I was round a mate's house and saw his shiny new A500. The graphics and sound completely blew me away. My parents were not so keen on buying one though, but after surgery for an acute case of appendicitis they finally caved. That Christmas, my brother and I received an A1500 🥳

I remained loyal to the Amiga long after all my friends moved on to PCs. I saved money from my paper round to buy a GVP HD8+ Series II with a massive 80 MB Quantum Drive which is still working today. Then a few years later I managed to buy a second hand A4000/EC 030, going online with a 56k modem and adding a 8x CD-ROM drive. It was my main machine until I went to university, when I finally caved and bought a PC.

With the move to Switzerland, I parted with much of my Amiga collection that I had hoarded for many years. I could not part with the A4000, however, so it came with me but remained unused. Then I hit my mid-40s and, for reasons I can't quite explain, it suddenly became top priority to get it working again. Linking it to a TV was a challenge, and the keyboard was missing, but a OSSC and Lyra II I confirmed it was working still, hard disks and all.

I did some research, joined Facebook groups, learnt about the horrors of VARTA, risks of ageing power supplies, and the need to re-cap. Very soon it was in the hands of the guys from Pure Amiga UK, whom I cannot recommend enough, and getting the TLC it deserved. It also now has an 060 CPU and ZZ9000.

This is just the beginning though, I have an A2000 on its way to me, and I am looking forward to many more years of tinkering and nostalgia.

Welcome to Amibay :check:
