Hi. My names iain, I'm 34 and I'm a gas engineer/plumber from South Wales, UK.
Firstly, I apologise for the wall of text, but I feel I have to share my story with like minded people.
I've been an avid gamer since I first got my hands on an amstrad CPC 464 some time in the 80's ever since, I've been into computers. My favourite platforms while growing up were my Amiga's and my megadrive, they took a back seat however once the origional playstation and pentium 75 PC's came out.
I always had a fondness for the Amiga however. And really regretted selling my original 500, 600 and 1200. They were so far ahead of their time. It's such a shame the AGA era died in its infancy and commodore disappeared, as with better management and development, Amiga may still have been a household name today. A few months ago I was getting all nostalgic and did a little research into looking for games and emulators and was shocked to discover that there is still a die hard Amiga community out there still innovating both software and hardware keeping the format alive!!
Well.. I just HAD to get myself one! I picked up a lovely bundle that included a badly yellowed A500 with 512k expansion, a mint A1200 1d4 rev with 3.1 roms, both boxed, with over 50 boxed games, 300 disks, and numerous PCMCIA cards, accessories, joysticks, mice, steering wheels, pedals, external drives etc. I also picked up an A600 at a boot sale for £** listed as not working, it just had a knackered hard drive so wouldn't boot. (Awesome!) It was mint condition came with another external drive, various accessories and about 100 disks! It also had a 1MB expansion in the trapdoor! Bargain! I will confess, I was a little worried that I was looking at my youth with rosé tinted glasses and the reality would be disappointing, but after firing up super frog, moonstone, and a few other classics, I realised I still loved it..
Well.. The spending continued. I bought port saver extensions, new mice, zipstick joysticks, and an ACA 1220 128MB 25MHZ accelerator for the 1200 and 2 WHD load 4GB compact flash hard drives preloaded with loads of software. For both Amiga's!
My collection has now expanded to a mega drive as well..
However, to show the power of retro games, I had a few mates come over for a Bevvy or ten, and a couple of them are in their early 20's, they initially made fun of my "antiques" but by the end of the night, we were all having a blast playing 4 player worms, and micro machines to name but a few.
