Hi from little ole NZ (no, we are NOT part of Australia :-p )

Been an Amiga nut since the late 80's thanks to a few friends having one, and got my first Amiga around late 91, an Amiga 500 Plus. Opened it up on Xmas day, set it all up, went to power it on and..... hold on....Im missing something... WHERES THE PSU ??? AND the mouse...

Couldnt believe it. Being Xmas, the store it was purchased from wasnt open until after New Years.... when they finally opened, went it and asked "WTF" - turns out they had someone come into the store with a dead PSU and faulty mouse, so they just happened to use the Amiga I got, as spare parts.... got home and fired her up.

Was a tad puzzled by the purple animated screen I was seeing (rather than the static white with floppy disc) but plodded on... found my favorite game (Pirates!) wouldnt work. Noo... eventually worked out it was a newer Amiga and there were "issues" running older games etc ;)

Down the track I obtained a copy of Relokick to boot back to 1.3, and Pirates! worked :)

After quite some time, I somehow got into BBS'ing (cant remember how exactly) - purchased a (amazing) USR Courier 14.4k modem and got "online". Few months later, I started my own BBS (using Maxs BBS) - with no HDD.
Had 3x floppy drives. But I started getting people calling, and found that altho they were disappointed there were no files to speak of, they were very happy with the door game selection and great messages bases that started growing.

Picked up an A590 with 120MB SCSI drive, followed by a NEC 1x CDROM, which improved the BBS experience somewhat for my users.

I was then offered a great deal on a GVPA530 unit with 4MB FAST RAM, which I snapped up and upgraded the ROM to a GURU ROM which sent HDD transfer rates through the roof (for an Amiga).

So at its peak, the BBS was running on an A500+ (2MB Chip RAM, 4MB Fast RAM), A530 (68030EC), CDROM, 33.6k modem. OS was WB 3.1 running thanks to S-Kick booting a soft 3.1 ROM. Ran flawlessly....

BBS was very popular with the Auckland Amiga users, but that may have been more due to the slightly dodgy side of the files section....moving along....

The internet started becoming popular, and callers declined to the BBS, and in the end after approx 4 years, I shut down the BBS for good and moved onto the internet. Then the A530 board died. I was gutted. Commodore was basically gone, and obtaining a new A530 was out of the question. So I sold up...... and bought a PC.

Have always loved the Amiga though, and recently was given an A500 with 1084S screen, which re-kindled my love for them, and then got offered an A1200 from a friend :)

So my passion has started again, and my kids are loving Superfrog.

Anyway rambled on way too long for an intro :-p

I'll shut up and move along :)

Hello and Welcome :) Great story and glad to see you've found your way back to the Amiga ;)

Welcome, youll find out that ppl have made a bunch of crazy hardware for the 1200. Its a fun computer to "pimp up".
There are also ppl out there that are working on FPGA re-implementation of old hardware and actually improving on it.
There's already a home made accelerator board for tha A600 that beats a 68060.
Interesting times ahead :-)

Thanks guys, soon as I have time Ill sit down with the 1200 and make sure its all going (havent fired it up yet) but friend said it was fine apart from some keys sticking.

Love to get my old BBS up and running via telnet if possible for a laugh :)
