Hi guys,

I've recently come back to Amiga's after a 21 year break.

I still have my original A500 that I scrimped and saved for in 1989 (sans the CM8833-II that I sold a long while ago). I've found everything except the RF modulator so I am currently using it on a TV in living room via the "Mono" plug which is an interesting experience. Thankfully everything still works, even all the floppies I tried.

I moved to a pc around late 1992 from that A500, I was mad on the amiga but the price of the A1200 I was so very close to buying was crazy. Around AUD$1600 (approx $1200US) for a A1200HD/40.

Back then I could get a 486SX with roughly double the specs for a similar price. The heart said "buy Amiga" and the head said "buy PC".

Looking back on it now Amiga 1200 prices in Australia look to have been double that of the US and probably a good 50-60% higher than the UK. No wonder they didn't sell many in OZ and no wonder it didn't add up for me to upgrade versus PC's.

I've just bought a A1200 recently as it looks like the choice for whdload games (plus the nostalgia value in the machine I really wanted to buy but didn't) and am waiting for it to get here.

Cheers!

Hiya and welcome :)

Believe it or not there are still active Amiga meetings held in Melbourne if you're interested.

Hi there and welcome,

it's great to have Amiga Fans all over the world. Same for me....I also decided to start again with AMIGA which remembers me on good old times :inlove:

Cheers, I did notice there was one or two user groups in Melb, will try and go to one when I can. Is there any swap meets also?

Hi there. looks like you eventually did what your heart told you 21 years ago.

It's very sad to hear your sad tale of expensive Amigas and tempting IBMs. Not to worry though, because the Amiga lives on and all those treats you missed out on are waiting for you to discover today. Welcome back to Amigatopia, snoopy77.
