I got this 486-DX machine with a crt monitor and it sem'd to all of its used life being hooked up along the computer, but i wanna someway use it alone without turning on the computer , is there a possible way? i wanna use it for playing pixelated game's on my newer computer, but it doesnt use the standart blue vga connector, how can i apply power to it with not needing the computer? and its 15 inch

It looks like a standard DE15 vga connector to me. What's the issue--is the monitor physically connected to a computer and thus doesn't have its own power connector? It's not sure what you're asking here.

i dont know exactly what your talking about, when someone mentions power its the mains end...

Oh, uh, sorry on that, i mean such with its one those power supply type's that it's connected with a seperated power cord that it also supply's the crt from the computer power supply.

So it was just using the 3 pin power out from the Computers PSU? If so, you can just use a standard power cable (such as the one that's powering the computer) connected directly to the power socket on the wall instead of through the computer. The data connection you've shown is a standard VGA.

Bryce.

Yep, it used a power out plug from the computer power supply to the crt.

most older AT (486) computers had this plug,(my Pentium 233 has it)

1, turned on the monitor with the PC power switch,
2, saved you using another power lead.

back of your 486.

lead you need to connect monitor power to back of 486

I'm not 100% sure what are you talking about. If PSU unit on your computer have two power plugs (C13 and C14: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320#C13.2FC14_coupler ) then you just need cable to connect your monitor to the power main.

Very common scheme used on plenty of old computers. The socket on computer's PSU is just used to have one power cord to the wall, there are no active elements.

On the other hand there are weird schemes like ADC ( https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Display_Connector ) where octopus cable is used. These are VERY rare but in that case computer may be an indispensable element.

Sardine was more correct on it, thats the kind of 486 i have, the slot's are vertica insted of horizontal.

If I understood you correctly, you want to use the old CRT with your new computer? You need to get another cable the same as the one you use to power your new computer. You probaly have the same kind of cable to power your new screen to.

Or you can have the power connected to the old computer and the videocable connected to the new one and use the old computer as power.

All your current cable is doing is passing the 110/230v from the PSU in the old computer to the screen when the computer is on. Same as the Amiga 4000.
