How many of you have too much vintage computer equipment around.. Just curious to know

My collection is rather large and I need to downsize, I have stuff in closets under the beds, in the shed.. All over

How large is yoru collections and what do you do to deal with it

I could stand to downsize a bit, myself, but it's nothing like some of the massive collections I've seen on various vintage-computing forums. Mainly I've just got some PPC Macs I'm in the middle of setting up before I sell them and a couple old PCs I probably ought to find homes for, nothing too major.

I started "downsizing" a bit ago, but that's qualified.... ;-)

I've gotten rid of (traded or given away) a TI99/4A, Atari STf, and a Coleco Adam system...

...

but, that was after I added an Amiga 500, 1000, and 1200.... ;-)

So, I supposed I'm OK because I didn't let my systems grow in number..

But I failed at the actual downsizing.. ;-)
(I think the order was that I added the 500 and then the 1200.. Then I traded the Adam. THEN I got the A1000. And THEN I got rid of the last 2)

(Actually, someone just gave me a Mac 512k, so I have have another, but it doesn't actually work (just beeps), so I'm not sure that counts.. ;-) )

Hi. Count me in. But at least I don't have over 100 Amiga systems as some guy over at Amiga.org does.

Definitely, got too much stuff. But I've been getting given someone else's collection in dribs and drabs. What I have multiplies of that I don't need will be finding a new home, no doubt to be replaced with things I don't have yet, or could never afford.

The usual sign you have too much stuff, you'd take a photo of it all, but you can't figure out how to take all the photos required!

Currently I have Godzilla to tell me if my collection is too big.

I have my 3 x PC, Classic Xbox,2 x Wii, PS1, A Laptop and a Netbook (Which is coming in the post very soon)

Would love to own some of the other systems out there but it just cant be done at the moment with so little space.

Totally. Two of my rooms are just piled to the ceiling with boxes of Retrogaming stuff. 2x of every Commodore (except PET, A2000 and CDTV), Atari (except 8-bits), Spectrum, Amstrad, Sega, Nintendo & Microsoft. Countless rare devices such as SX32, DoctorV64, SuperWildCard DX2. Modchips for almost every device known :) Lots of Jamma Arcade PCBs, most hand helds upto the PSP. I really should sit down one month and sell off over half of it. I started collecting 2x of everything when something (A500+?) self destructed whilst in pristine condition in the box despite being packed with moisture absorbing silica gel pouches.

Surprisingly absent is Sony hardware. I've only got a PSX and PSP. Never was interested in PS2 or PS3 (although I do have a YLOD 3.55 PS3 waiting to be fixed)

My wife finally flipped out about a month ago and I had to re-locate all my kit into the garage except for my wall of retro.
One wall in the dining room with a floor to ceiling bookshelf, and a variety of my favourite consoles plugged in ready to go.
I actually took advantage of the move to inventory all my stuff, get some new plastic storage boxes and silica gel, prep systems for replay and have a good old sort out.
It has actually made my life considerably easier, however the garage is on the other side of the estate, which can be awkward sometimes.
I have been given cautious permission to build a large shed/ workshop in the garden, where I can store all my gear and set myself up properly. But that will mean never seeing my family ever again! So maybe not.

Not as much as I'd like or used to have. One collector who did have too much stuff travelled all the way from the Nottingham area to Anglesey with a van load of stuff for me some years ago for nowt. Sadly lost touch with him about 10 years ago. Some of it was not working but I could have stripped them for parts (such as a faulty Dragon 32 and Vic-20). I put a lot of the stuff into an old stone outhouse at my parents' place.

Then a few months later we had a storm that blew the back wall down (typical ... this outhouse had been there for years) with rubble landing on top of a lot of it. I was away at Uni at the time and couldn't go back for a few weeks to see what, if anything, survived. There was a lot of new in box Atari 7800 carts. The boxes were ruined as were some of the labels on the carts (shrinkwrap isn't as waterproof as it looks). The carts themselves were fine. As were the 2600 carts in there ... and the 2600 Woodies. They don't make 'em like they used to. :)

I did have a couple of boxes of bits'n'pieces, mostly Atari controllers and some Amstrad CPC stuff but those have long since been thrown own by my dopy parents.

If you want to change that, just PM me :D

Oh well, I have definitely too much stuff. Even 250 square meters aren't enough lol

I'm slowly shipping bits out to people who I know will use them properly. My little room was far too overcrowded - 6 or 7 spectrums, 10 amstrads, lots of tape games for above mentioned. Still clearing out slowly. I'm now down to 0 spectrums (!), 2 Amstrads, An A1200 and an Atari STe 1040. The A1200 and atari are consolations for clearing out my still boxed CPC664.

Oh, and some ancient grandstand console with 2 paddles.

At one point I was having to get stuff posted to different addresses and then sneaked in over time so the misses wouldn't see the true extent of my retro collection.

Clever! I have the same problem myself. :shhh:

I shed lots recently but then all that spare space needs filling! So I have started going on a retro rampage again:

Waiting for my Amstrad GX 4000 and Nintendo Wii (that is now retro to me as it is old and I am getting it second hand!)

I am very very tempted by a big box Amiga to complement my 2x A500+s and A1200s but they are big buggers and I am not sure Mrs Brookstermax is going to be happy..... :p

EDIT As above - I use different addresses, I have these are my arsenal:

My home address (least preferred) for when she works late so I can get home and hide things - timing is crucial!
My in-laws who reluctantly support my hobby and live very nearby :)
My parents who live miles away are my last resort for secret fixes

Happy days!

I'm not too bad, as it turns out. I have five Amigas at home at the moment, but two belong to other people and are only at mine for repairs and upgrades. That said, I do have quite a hoard of Zorro cards now. I should really look to letting some of those back into the wild at some point.

I dont think have anywhere near enough systems - at last count I only had approximately 33 different computers (66 computers in total) and 27 different consoles (36 in total).

My problem is that I my house is too small.

(I dont include the 6 PCs or Apple in the my list of computers - they arent real computers just modern :censored:)

Its not that I have too much stuff, its just that the place I live in is too small.

Had to box all my books up so I'd have enough shelf space for all (most) of my computers to be easily accessable.

Can get to the ones in my sig, but have a few more still in the wardrobe waiting for the day when they can finally come out :)

OK, I can understand having a few retro things, but some people's collections are just obscenely huge and I simply do not understand why you would bother. They can't all be seeing use? What's the point in having piles of old computers up in the loft gathering dust? All my Amigas get some use. Admittedly, not quite as much as I'd like, but all of them are work-in-progress projects that I spend time on.
