No, 2.5 inch IDE does not need additional power like the bigger 3.5 inch IDE. It will get the power from the 44 pin connector itself.

Technically this can be used on every 2.5 inch IDE connector. It all belongs to the required space. So it can also be used on the A600/1200 IDE connector but might need some kind of riser or cable.

Does this adapter face to the left or the right of the IDE connector? I have a vampire 1200 board and previously purchased an adapter that is oriented to the right of the IDE port but I need one facing left.
