Hi all,

Managed to snag a cheap loft find 1084S in really good condition. It was sold as working but I think it may be on its way out, the image judders there's almost an interference on the screen, no matter what input is being used. I've done my absolute best to capture a video, but typically it's hard to video a crt screen, but the jumping and flickering is present in real life too. I can't hear any funny noises etc. I know these era were prone to dodgy flybacks. Should I be leaving this off before it takes out even more?

If @roy_bates happens to see this thread, this is a separate monitor to the one he added a scart port to.

Thanks

Edit, adding a second video, the image stablises from jumping around in this video, perhaps after warming up but there's a constant what I can only describe as interference on the screen:

video 2

Its not the easiest to see in that second video, but all the visual noise you can see other than the black bar sweeping across the screen is present in real life, although it's more obvious really.

have i done work for you before?

looking at the first video i would suspect ht lead is loose, somehow,at the flyback

cant see a problem in the second one

not really sure how im going to walk you through a repair?if that was the idea, you know where the service area is

Yes, sorry you did a scart mod for me previously on exactly the same model crt.

Happy to post in the service section if more appropriate. For posterity in case of googlers the vertical pot size does this:

probably a dirty pot

it hasnt been used for years and stuck in a loft, are you expecting it to just work with no problems, and do no servicing,or repairs
you would have to be really lucky

come on

its a philips,so its prone to flyback failure, mains switch not working, and loads of cold solder joints to mention a few
that comes with the model, its a 1084s-p or p model

yes it probably is going to have problems,it was made around 85-88
yes,you are right to think its going to fail,it still works somewhat though mostly, but nobody is going to able to tell you when or how

unless your thinking of fixing it yourself, some people do

if you went looking in the forum or any other forum youd see endless posts about these and the inherant problems, that go back over a decade
you wouldnt be alone

Looks like the dirty pot could be the culprit.

by dirty pot i meant the track inside the pot is dirty, what you are looking at looks like rust or flux on the bottom of the board i can see rust on the spring on that switch just above

Happy ending here.

Tried cleaning the pot, no luck. Remembered I actually have a CM8333 that's for parts has the same pot on the board. Swapped it in, and all issues are cleared up. Gave the board a clean while I was at it.

The power switch is a job for another day.
