true stuff.
Only time I find it hilarious though is when playing games online. Never knew there were so many jerks on this planet. I'd hope that they aren't like that face to face, but having been to several PC gaming events in the past, sadly they're like that in person too.

it is a tricky question.
it is a tool and entertainment, i've met people that have become my friends through it.
if it didn't exist it wouldn't matter, things would just take longer.
but i am glad it does exist.
it is real from the point of view that we use it to influence real life, but it is still a virtual world.
so my answer would be...... meh, 50/50

It is a good point regarding gaming. However I think it also comes back to my question because a lot of these people playing online games and acting like idiots do not consider the real people at the other end of the game. They act as though it is disconnected from reality completely and has no effect on any others that they are interacting with.

that is because there is usually no payback, it is escapeism, and because its a game then it is not real

Not that it bothers me either way, just find it funny being called a camper, when every single match on Modern Warfare 2 I always get the accolade, "Longest Distance Travelled"

Internet still won't give you a smell, make you feel and touch.
Sure you can talk to people, play games with them, but it still isn't real, it's all 0's en 1's.
Same with the phone, you can hear them and maybe even see them, but it's still 0's en 1's.

I was happy. Where ever I was, I was happy. At peace. I knew that everyone I care about was allright. I knew it. Time didn't mean anything. Nothing had form, but I was still me, you know ? And I was warm. And I was loved. And I was finished. Complete. I don't understand theology, or dimensions, or any of it, really. But I think I was in heaven. And now I am not. I was torn out of there. Pulled out there by my friends. Everything here is hard, bright and violent. Everything I feel, everything I touch. This is hell. Just getting through the next moment, and the one after that. Knowing what I've lost.

my personal view on this (and as such not an absolute truth) is that The Internet is just a means of communication, just like radio, television, snailmail and newspapers.
Indeed i hereby ignore the interactive gaming, or do i?
Like stated in a post above, internet does not contain *anything* new, it just speeds up things.
Chess by correspondense, fora and bulletinboards, direct connect by modem, it was active way before the internet.
Problem with newspapers and television was that anything in/on them was believed (by the stupid ones) to be absolutely true.
Internet took that just a little step further...."i read it on blog.moz.ambi.que so it is true".
Don't get me wrong, i am absolutely and undenyably addicted to the internet.
It makes me feel real intelligent i can google 12 different and contradicting definitions to the word "ambivalent".
The mmorpg's, technical quest's and skincolored pixels keep me buzy aproximately 6hrs each day.
To me, the internet is a view on a pub and a library from the comfort of your own home.

Not sure, I think some people in real life have a virtual 'rudeness' and can only seem to function if they have a constant link to the net!! Like at the dinner table posting messages to Facebook. You ignorant b******
It can also show the real side of some people who think they are anonymous and can post whatever they like... Sure, the net is good in some aspects, bad in others. I think a few days away from a computer is a 'good' thing so you don't drift into 'Another World' (good game) so to speak... .
