Hi there, I'm a PC geek with a focus on PC hardware from the early '80's to around 2002. Obviously I love the stuff that's come around since then, but I must confess to missing the old beige box era of computing, even though they're clearly better and cheaper now. I'm always messing around and I plan on starting a site soon dedicated to getting old hardware running newer software and new hardware running old games. I'm hoping here I'll find fellow geeks who appreciate the same things :)

welcome fellow DOS adventurer !!!
I am sure you will like it here!

Your quest is over.....

You have found retro computer repair central, or so it seems to have become these days. The combined knowledge on this site contributes to global warming, we have so much brain power on tap. :D

Hello and welcome! You've found the right place for retro computing of all flavours. There are a few of us with *ahem* guilty pleasures. Mine are a pair of Toshiba laptops, a Pentium 100 running DOS 6.22 and WfW 3.11, and a P2/266 running Windows '98.

I love my miggies with all my heart, but there's still that dark place in there where the PC laptops are allowed to roam free. :-)

I never mentioned my most precious of computers, a Packard Bell 386SX20 that I'm hoping to get a 486SL for, an Amstrad PC1640 which I want to restore to it's former glory (and could really do with finding a 5 1/4" 1.2Mb Floppy drive for, though I did mention my Pentium which is a Compaq that used to belong to my Dad and I have upgraded to the hilt. Just need an overdrive MMX or powerleap.

At the minute, I do 2 variations on my Win98 installs, a DOS focused one, which has MS-DOS 7.1 installed afterwards and an XP focused one which adds more modern functionality and can take up to 7 hours to complete an installation even on an Athlon XP rig.

Nice to see so many fellow geeks here, should have fun :)
