Hi I bought a cache controller card for one of my DOS setups but its too big for the case so its up for sale.

It was sold to me as working with screenshots.

It has 4 X 1mb 30 pin simms and a 8088 processor with IDE ports.

Will add pics later.

£20 + postage+ fees/gift

It is used only as speed cache for XT system or can be used in 486/Pentium class x86 hardware?

Hi Rkauer

I bought it for a 386 which can only have max of 16mb

Here is some info I gathered:

A caching controller works just like a disk cache you might have in system memory except the RAM is located on the controller card. It was very important back when servers were tightly memory constrained. If the server can only have a maximum of 16 MB installed, the system won't have the RAM for both system functions and disk caching. Place an additional 8MB on the controller card and now the system has all the RAM it needs.

It makes the system faster by handling read-ahead so if the system calls for a group of sectors, the cache would probably have the next set of sectors already loaded. The controller cache can also reduce bus contention by consolidating requests into fewer but larger transfers.

Next in line. I do not understand if it is also a RAM expansion or not?

from what I understood the RAM on the controller works like a hardware smartdrive

I'm interested when it fits into a A4000T
and if its usable for a A2386.

I don't have a A4000T so don't know but its a long card so will take measurements.

it should be compatible with the a2386.

It can be upgraded to 16mb. 4x 4mb simms

What Keropi and SaviorX said!:)

Not interested finally, as it does not seem to be a RAM expansion.

Apologies to Zerec. My mum was in hospital so I have been busy everyday after work so haven't got a chance to get a quote. I haven't forgotten, I will get the quote this week.

Postage to Germany is £8

Total is £28 + fees. Sent PM to Zerec:)
