Ok this is getting on my nerves now but its stranger than anything i have ever seen or heard of..

Ok so lets start..
over at 1 of my other forums some 1 was selling a "trusty" 1.4Ghz xbox.
the guy said it didnt have a heat synk installed and so was gathering dust.

fast forward a few weeks and my ebay account gets an email. some 1 is planing to buy a trusty xbox. but will need a heat synk installed and would i do it.
I tell them im on the forum the xbox is for sale on under the same name..

few days later he requests my address.. turns out he wanted the xbox sent directly here save on postage costs..

any weay it arrived "always a good thing" and i had a look at it.. Lots of the xbox would be what i would call "not as described"
no dvd no hard disk, no chip. but the seller did offer that as an option. so that didnt really bother me.

what did bother me is that the cpu was in a seperate bag.. "had to take the wife and daughter swimming so i just left a message saying it arrived and went off to swimming"
when i came back i checked out the xbox more thouroughly.

The cpu socet is damaged (naimly the locking mechanism for locking the cpu. Im prety sure it should be a thumb screw you twist to lock or unloc.. but its just not there looks like it was snapped off..
few traces are corroded and need replacing.
And from the few times i have come in contact with a trusty xbox the cpu seems to be missing atleast a capasator and some ocilators. + a power input and a switch.
So that all gets classed as "not as described"

So i send the seller a message and the buyer a message (pm. email, and text for buyer)
And no one replies..
Not a word...

I dont know if im suposed to source the parts to finish the box. pack it up and have it sent back. or other..
i have no idea.. Its not like i dont have other things to work on either..

So yeah this is agrivating me. Most of my day has been spent trying to contact these people.
And personally if i had bought a hevily modified xbox and had it sent directly off to some one to work on, I would be very eager to know it arrived safley..
This guy dosent seem to care either way..

never had a situation like this occur before. and its annoying.

any way had to get that off my chest.
Hope the buyer calls or something, he has multiple methods to contact me.

Send it back...
"not as describes & Beyond finacially viable repair, you have been had, take it up with the seller"...

its not mine..
Some 1 els owns it.. It just got sent here.
the buyer finaly contacted me earlier, and he says i should get to work on it.

So i have done what i canto the socket locking mech. (need to wait and see if it will hold)

after that i need to fix the traces and mount a bracket for the heat synk.

i can then try to boot it.
if it wont boot i then have to source the ociliator and resistor excetera to finish the pcb work for the chip. "i should have taken a picture of the last one i saw because i have no idea what the dumb things need to be, so i have sent out my minnion messages to try and find a high res pic of one"

my rant was more about the buyer not messaging me but now they have so i'm not so agrivated any more.
Atleast now i know what course the buyer wants to take so i can crack on with it.

Wouldn't it be easier to have started with an unmolested xbox and a new CPU? By the looks of your threads you have the ninja skills to make that happen.

Anyways, Kudos to you for prolonging the life of xbox awesome

the friendtech adapters to convert the board form bga to pga so the chip adapter can fit are net to impossible to find now.

hopefully the box will work by fixing traces and mounting the heat synks now. but i really think that it needs a few resisters and an ocilator installed on the pcb (all others i have seen have had them) this usually lets you swap from the 1.4ghz running speed to 740mhz (stock speed)
i think it should run at 1.4ghz constant without the resisters and ocilator. but i will need to source them any way.

I have taken a few pics of the before situation and during. and hopefully prety soon should have some after pics. the buyer will get these so he comprehends what i meant by contacting the seller..

Unfortunatly his reply was.
"I dont understand these things really, so just fix it up and il pay you for it" :picard

lol its a charge what you like thing then hehehehehhe

some ppl are really that stupid, I know Iv`e be stupid and probably will be again but for the sake of asking a few questions instead of saying I don`t know its not hard

I have a spare xbox 1 you can have its not a worker it has the orange light thing. But if you want it for spares your welcome to it

i like xboxes. so if you want to sell me your broken one let me know :)

and usualy (if its been open) orange light is because 2 or more ram legs are touching (wire? solder splash)
can be a few other reasons too. but usualy is the ram one.

@ cosmicfrog..
Turns out my no labour costs "just pay what you feel its worth" policy could be a bit of a bad move lol.
Total costs buyer HAS to pay is £15 for the hardware lol. the 3 days work dosent have a set rate..

prehaps i should re think the policy, but having said that the majority of boxes that come through my doors should not be ultra rare super upgraded trusty boxes lol.

oh and i forgot that i actualy managed to revive this thing and its now running.
few little solder jobs to re do properly (kind of taked a few on to make sure it would run) and then epoxy them in place so the buyer dosent pull any traces by mistake if they decide to change cases.
