Not much to say about myself....I'm 38, I still own the Amstrad 6128 with colour screen that my parents bought me when I was 8. I have loads of great games for it still...now that I have 2 young kids, I'll probably fish it out one day and set it up for them. It'll probably need a new disk drive belt, not a problem.

What else can I say....I was given an old Amiga about 10 years ago (needed a minor repair). I decided to get it working simply so I could play Speedball on it (I spent many hours in my youth playing Speedball at a friends house, so wanted to relive those memories - ahh, the BitMap Brothers !) managed to install a bootable 1 GB HDD in it by first mounting it on a PC running an Amiga emulator, and copying across the workbench boot software (and images of the floppy disk games I had)....I think I only did it all out of curiosity. I then sold it all on eBay to a proper enthusiast.

I don't have time now for tinkering (IT managerial job, 2 young kids etc..). I still start up MAME every now and then to laugh at PaperBoy, PacMan or R-Type etc..

Why have I joined.....well, one of my various projects at work is Digital Archaeology (as part of Digital Preservation initiatives). We're custodians of a large archive that contains many old floppy disks (5-1/4", 3-1/2" & 3" of unknown origin) and I've bought a KryoFlux device to extract preservation grade disk images from all these old, decaying floppy disks before it's too late. I'll probably then need to look into emulation techniques, so might need to ask for help here. In the meantime, I might look here for some 3" floppy drive hardware for sale.

I'll be happy to chat about my old Amstrad days any time....especially all the great games I enjoyed over the years, some of which I think I even completed !:p

Welcome to AmiBay. Me too, still have my CPC6128 since 1985, I've lost all my disks (you know, borrowing stuff is not the best idea most of the times), but I managed to find some new ones to play with.

Off topic: I know the feeling, last time I leant something out it was a camera, it came back broken :double

Welcome to Amibay btw! I'm sure you'll find lots of fun here!
