For Sale: KCS Power PC board for A500

Board in fantastic condition with manuals and disks (as long as I can locate them amongst the ~1000 others that I have ). Photos will be provided at the weekend presuming anyone is interested.

As far as I remember it works in both A500 and A500+. when used in the A500+ it works as a 1MB Chip ram expansion as well as the PC emulator. In the A500 it gives the 512KB slow and the rest can be used as RAM disk. I'll double check though just to make sure.

The A500+ version does not have the clock or battery on the board as the A500+ already has that on the motherboard. It is sometimes referred to as the KCS Powerboard Plus.

I was remembering wrong...it works as 1MB chip ram if you have minimegi chip (or whatever it's called) installed in an A500. That was my setup.

So to confirm, this is the version for A500 not A500+.

I can confirm that the KCS Power PC (A500 version, rev 4.1 or 4.2) does not work on a rev6A A500 + 1 meg chip RAM hack + DKB megachip. Instead of the expected 2 meg chip RAM the system boots to a default 512 KB of chip RAM. Using the KCS with only 0.5 MB of RAM installed on it made no difference.
Of course any standard 512 KB trapdoor expansion I tried worked fine.

The mini megi could behave different of course but I doubt it as it uses the same fundamental idea as the DKB (1 MB of RAM on the device itself + 0.5 on motherboard + 0.5 on trapdoor + chip RAM hack).

Are you absolutely certain that you had the aforementioned combination working as you described?

That's how I remember it but my system also had a Viper520 installed so maybe that made a difference. I sold the the minimegi with the Viper520 so never used just the minimegi with the KCS.

Let's face it not many people have a Viper520 so what you're saying is good info for the majority. Thanks

No prob. Needless to say, with the regular 8372A 1 MB Agnus + the hack for 1 MB chip RAM on rev6A boards, the KCS Power PC works perfectly fine as a 0.5 MB trapdoor expansion giving 1 MB chip RAM.
