Hi,

I've recently purchased my husband an Amiga 500+ as a birthday present and am very lost and confused, but obviously can't ask him about it or it will ruin the surprise.

I'd like to be able to run A500 games on it also and understand that I'll need a kickstart switch - does anyone know where these can be purchased? I found a site but they've sold out and this place is a bit overwhelming to navigate as someone who knows nothing at all about this console!

Thank you for any help and advice!

You can get a relokick start disk which is very good and playing the 1.3 games your a500+ has a 2.04 kick start rom so most games will run but only one thing have you had the battery checked in side as they do leak and the out come is not good at all

are you running the software from floppys? or harddrive?

i dont think youll be able to burn a custom eprom for yourelf with two kickstarts on it,as that would of been a option if you was using floppies and had a programmer.

if it was a harddrive whdload would of been another option were you wouldnt need a another kickstart.

Yeah... you're going to have to explain like I'm 5. How do I check the battery? I've been doing a lot of reading that I will need a switch to play all of the a500 games - I don't want to present him with it and a lot of a500 games that he used to play as a child and him not be able to do anything with it or have to buy parts and wait. I am totally clueless!

All I know is... I have a 500+ and it comes with some floppies... some are games and some are fonts, some I don't know. See, clueless.

or get him an amiga 500 1.3 with 1mb ram and give him both :D

Might be good if another amiga user with experience is near you to check the battery for you, A500+ is a time bomb the battery kills them if not removed, you could get many more years or find when you plug it in a green or black screen.

many here will help you but as you're a complete novice i would look for someone in Scotland within an acceptable distance to check it for you.
