I am surprised to see this kickstarter.

There are already numerous Amiga boards, internationals or nationals.
There are already marketplaces, including Amibay.
I am curious to see what might be Technical Support. Is Commodore back with David Pleasance to assume warranty on the hardware?
The other stuff listed is puzzling.

I think spamming this across multiple sites which already offer the majority of what this kickstarter is apparently offering (albeit without the dub reggae cd from Dave’s kids) will not help achieve a positive outcome.

This should not be a Kickstarter campaign imho. If you want to start a "new" community then just go online with it and start! If it turns out succesful then you can always attract sponsors and/or work with paid subscriptions.

Cynical cash grab trying to make money from old rope. Dressing it up in the usual “it’s for the community” guff doesn’t wash anymore.

Was about to say that, until i saw Dave Haynie in the list.
No one can criticize Dave Haynie.

My years of Amiga know-how is given freely, no need to join a club or fund a kickstarter.

This Kickstarter is highly suspect IMHO. More like a cash grab than anything else as others have already stated.

Edit

There might be a rumour going around that the Amiga Global Alliance theme song is going to be sung by none other than that old blast from the past, Hans George Campbell aka Doomy / DoomMaster.

I'm sure the irony of a spamming a scheme that offers a 'Market Place: A portal to buy and sell new and used items' onto Amibay is lost on nobody. In fact it just about sums up the lack of self awareness in any of it!

Sorry for delurking, I've been following this around the web and it seems he's spammed this just about every Amiga related place I've ever been a member of!

Totally puzzled why this is a Kickstarter.

Almost all of the features are already here on amibay and we are free. No subscription fees for a certificate required.

Still puzzled why this is a thing.

This Kickstarter is an attempt to apply another turn of the 'bleed the user dry' screw from DP and his cohorts.

We don't do this to line their pockets, we do this to keep the Amiga alive and the information free.

I have no idea why these people are so attached to him. Any wrong decision Commodore ever took was someone else's fault, every correct decision was his. The reality is probably somewhere in the middle but there's nobody around to provide a counterpoint anymore. When people are dead there's no comeback.

The Amiga community was the pioneer in keeping their machine alive via online means. Over on the Amstrad CPC scene it was just a few of us huddled together around a campfire on Usenet and with a couple of FTP sites. Amiga owners had Aminet and there was active ongoing effort to produce new stuff. OK it was a newer machine but you get the drift.

2023 and the scene is bigger than at any point since 1995/6. And suddenly these vultures turn up and claim something better is needed. Either it's ego or money but I don't believe it's for the good of the rest of us.

This ludicrous proposition acts like the last 25 years haven't happened. No there is no all in one site that does everything but who wants all the eggs in one basket? On any formats scene we all know what happens when one site drops out (look at the World Of Spectrum fiasco). A broad diverse group of sites all run by different people and funded in different ways is the safest way for any community. You don't want one place to rule them all. It's not needed and its not wanted. Go back to your dreamland of Commodore branded toasters Dave!

Actually, i'm sure that members from the UK would know more about David Pleasance than me, but from my french point of view of 1994, when i was reading local Amiga reviews such as Amiga Dream, Amiga Revue or even general stuff like Joystick to get informations each month about the fall of Commodore and ongoing legal procedures, there were news of David Pleasance of Commodore UK about to buy the whole Commodore company or at least the Amiga departement, but after a few months we understood that was all bullshit and that Commodore UK was only trying to convince customers of a bright future to sell its remaining stock.
Then i haven't read books later made by or about David Pleasance so i won't know more.

One sure thing is that i like Donald Pleasance and i don't know if the two were related.

Just before, the head of Commodore France was named Georges Fornay. Commodore France was closed in 1994 before the end of the rest of the company i think and Mr Fornay become later head of Sony Computer Entertainment France to launch the Playstation without thinking anymore of the Amiga, apart from his opinion on Commodre you might read here https://obligement-free-fr.translat..._sch=http&_x_tr_sl=fr&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=fr
The guy has renounced a long time ago to make money out of Amiga users :p

Completely different people.

Donald was (and still is) a well respected worldwide known artist of film, stage and tv - the other is a grubby, money grabbing exponent in the art of BS

Hi

Looks like it got cancelled on the 12th, did not look like it would get anywhere near its $18k goal with only $2.5k raised.

As said in this thread, I cant see the need for this.

Regards

Barry

"We're excited to announce that we've secured the domain name "AGA.Directory" as the cornerstone of a groundbreaking new website."

Is it just me or could this be a line said by David Attenborough? I hear it in my head over and over again... :)

Although I agree that this kickstarter was maybe not the way to go, I do know David Pleasance as a person with his heart in the right place. Now, some of you may not know him the way I do like I know Dave Haynie, but it is another thing to paint them black... I expect better from my fellow Amigans tbh. That said, It has been canceled as clearly the idea was of good intent but anno 2023 it is fair to say the show is over. We are the last ones that care, our offspring do not share the same passion other than it being that old computer my dad cared about... so yeah... this is it!

I do know David Pleasance as a person with his heart in the right place.

And that gives him the right to attempt an erection of a pay-wall for all the information that over the years has been amassed and shared freely by those who actually care about the Amiga?

My personal view is the following:

He can take whatever's left of the Kickstarter along with his hoard of sycophant hangers-on and shove it!
