and i don't understand it, who is slating what and where? on a different forum? if a different forum why would you care?

we are all different and we all like different things, and some people really hate things that other people love, which i think is a very good thing, the world we be incredibly dull if we all liked the same things and progress would cease as we'd all be happy with what we have:)

The only exception to this rule is the movie District 9.... such a horrid film that is a waste of time! ;)

I have enjoyed this one

I have done it on other sites.

Recent one is somebody got two copies of R-type final.
One had a different logo on the box (re release?) Its the same bloody game, so why own it twice?

Collectors are soooo stupid...............

Feel sorry for those that collect Edge magazine, those "100 different covers" things they do, still the same **** on the inside

Why, when somebody feels like celebrating a purchase or enjoyed a film or whatever, do some of you feel the need to crow about some negative aspect? I suspect it is an inner urge to outshine the person trying to share their euphoria. Look into your hearts - are you really that pathetic? Let other people enjoy their purchases.

Interestingly I found these news articles on District 9

Zetr0 - I recognise that template! Do you read 419Eater, by any chance? :p

My wife just spent £30 on curtains we dont need "she phoned to tell me like it was a good thing"
yes i will be Knocking her purchase

I find it highly rude when either myself or someone else buys something and is really happy about it. So they show the items to other members of groups and forums and the other members kist knock saying "oh I wouldnt have bought that cuz you will never need it" or some other BS

Cant people just stop being total p***ks and just be happy for the person.

It really grinds my gears.

Get better friends?

No, seriously, don't hang out in places where people will mock you for your purchases.

There's no such thing as crap music or movies, or a stupid thing you shouldn't have bought. There's only things you like and value, and things you don't.

I've never understood that. It's like it's deep in the human psyche, but what is it for? I've got collections of all kinds of things and I find it pleasing when they're complete, but I don't need the things! So why do I do it? Why do any of us do it? I don't need four copies of the same CD because they released it with different covers.

I will not hear "you really can't afford that you know" or "oh joy, more clutter"

I wouldn't marry someone like that. We wouldn't have anything in common!

I have the best girlfriend in the world. She encourages me.

I'm proposing to her this Christmas

Best of luck! And hope she doesn't see this! lol.

... The eye roll tells me you're not very excited about the idea?

I wonder if its some sort of animal instinct related to pleasure. The things in nature that give animals pleasure are usually food, water and other things that are beneficial. These pleasurable things, animals tend to seek out, fight over and indeed hoard. The human 'gratitude' probably kicks in once we get the amount we feel we desire, but then we move on to other things that trigger the desirability factor. Aside from games, the opposite sex is also a major part of this cycle. Probably why many marriages don't last unless you can become 'friends' and develop deeper connections than the ones triggered by the limbic system

Being out of the wild for so long, us humans' animal instincts are all but useless in most cases, but we haven't been out of the wild long enough for them to disappear and we're constantly fighting each other in wars which probably kicks them all back into gear. They're not good enough to serve us in the wild, and too disrupting to be useful in most cases of modern society.

i dont collect things :(
I mean i have LOTS of stuff that I have.. But all of that is so i can use it to fix something or similar..
I never did those foot ball sticker albums. or trading cards, never collected magazines.
i wonder if im just strange lol.
I noticed my wife collects things like ornimental owls and glass flowers,

she would say i collect junk. but like i said to start it. all the stuff i have that she says is junk, i use to fix stuff.

so am i just strange, or is every one els nuts?

Not strange. I think what people mean when they say they 'collect stuff' is usually for most just that they simply 'pick up a lot of stuff which they like'.

Collections usually have a set goal and rather specific items. If you were collecting PS1 games for example there is an ultimate goal. Whereas if you collect 'consoles' or 'games' or 'hardware' then there is no clear end or target, as the 'collection' hasn't been defined. Throw an adjective before what you collect and then it's a collection. ie. Amiga games, not 'games'.

Maybe I'm just looking at it too technically, but that's how I see it. Technically, by the above definition, your wife hoards, not collects. Unless of course she has very specific items or a certain manufacturer she enjoys pieces from.

And by that definition, you hoard spare parts. It's an investment :D

I recongnise that. My misses is always pleading poverty. Nothing at all, of course, to do with the crap she bought straight after pay day...

Is it any wonder why I insist on having separate bank accounts.

Hmmmmmmmm...

Everyone else are nuts.

Collections are for people with OCD.

I just can't be arsed.

I've never understood that (-Collecting). It's like it's deep in the human psyche, but what is it for? I don't know for sure, but there's a hint that we at-least think that we need them, otherwise why would we spend so much time and effort collecting things?

Losing my techno-collection would feel like losing a limb. I don't need my limbs as such, but they are handy (and this is leggy, and this is army, and this is necky, etc.).

This brings me neatly back to the original topic of reproduction. Why do we do it? Aren't there enough people in the world? I mean, the last thing the world needs is more people, surely.

Note: That last paragraph was a kind-of half joke, half 'consider our responsibility to Earth' thought-provocation. I do not wish any babies to be unborn, although I do wish that they might earn their keep a bit more. Plant some trees or something. Consider the future, y'know. Stop making all that noise. That sort-o-thing.

If you were collecting PS1 games for example there is an ultimate goal.

The goal would be to fill your village with Playstation games, surely.

Users of Yahoo suggest that there are allegedly between 1250-1300 unique Playstation games released in the US.

Double CD Case dimensions: 141 x 50 x 124mm
Standard single Playstation single disc case dimensions: 141 x 20 x 124mm

an average case size of 141 x 35 x 124mm

That's a tower of about 45m!

...and that's about the approximate length of an average village. (It isn't)

wife read this n tells me i have to come and say she dont collect owls n flowers..
i just think she does.:picard

im pretty sure an avarage village is bigger than 45m lol..
