I searched eBay, there is one UK seller selling replacement screens for my laptop... so I figured: I try to open my screen , and since I have no experience it will either be a cheap fix or a complete replacement....
It turned out to be a complete replacement LOL but I found in the end the small lamp on top... I did not have to open the whole damn thing, too bad I had not thought earlier to just see where the inverter cables go... lamp was behind a tin shield... live and learn I say :P

edit: after closer inspection I see I did no real damage in the plastics, I thought I broke them but no :D but I still have to fight dust so it won't get trapped inside the panel LOL though now I am puzzled where to get a suitable lamp from...? It is 34cm long (including connectors) and has a diammeter of ~1.8mm , L shaped like this:

If you have another LCD panel you can take a lamp from, better check with another lamp before buying a new one.
There's still a chance the lamp itself is not the culprit.

Are there small black (or dark) areas on the edges of the lamp?

well.... the lamp broke in half LOL and no, I cannot see any dark areas... it was not complete dead, it was working for some time...
I will get a couple of lamps, if they fix it OK, otherwise to h€ll with it!
