Let me be the first ...

From my family to yours!

Luscious linky

P.S. No charge for the pizza :)

reminds me to be away when that day is, pesky kids asking for candy doing nothing back than having some kind of costume. if they do a song or dance I'd be less reluctant. ;)

(not too happy people have imported the celebration from usa)

Hate to burst your "bah humbug" bubble moijk but "Trick Or Treat" originated back in the middle ages, here in the UK :)

It wasn't until the 1950's that the USA began trick or treating as we know it today

Damn, I'll see if I find a time machine and instruct some nasty vikings to make whomever got the idea is dragged after the longship.

Is there any point lost in the translation through american popculture to the halloween we know it from movies? Beside an excuse for already spoiled kids to beg for candy, that is?

Not sure how trick or treat came about but Haloween (all Hallow's eve - which originated I believe in my own country) goes back to pagan times. There are many facets to it. You have the harvest and circle of life thing from the druids (you know - the whole Maiden; mother; crone thing) and then there is the Christian influence later - who ensured that the festival was tied into the All Saints Day. Priests would often do such things to ensure migration to the new religion would happen painlessly by adopting the same festival days etc. Here in Britain (at least celtic Britain) the Celtic cross is an example of this. You have the Christian cross of Christ our lord; with a circle running behind the Crossroads of the cross. This circle represents the sun..

Sorry - that went on longer than i intended

Happy Christmas one and all!

Infact did you know Christmas was invented by Coca Cola....:run:

Cool link Blank Ill be sending that on to a few of the young uns in the family.

LOL Gaz - Christmas wasn't invented by Coca Cola - but I know what you mean. The traditional Santa Claus and his red and white garb was a Coca Cola invention. Christmas as we know it was a Victorian invention. I believe Sant Nick was a green garbed fellow back then...

Now I suddenly want to play moonstone...

Hehe - Moijk, any time Halloween comes around I have an urge to play Ghost and Goblins :)

I have to admit I'm a bit of a Bah humbug person with Halloween. It's nothing short of begging and the parents who walk there kids around the streets wouldn't give you the time of day on any other day.

We even get kids knocking on the door asking for "Penny for the Guy" ...several days before bonfire night. What next? 2012 Apocalypse day benevolent fund? !!!!

BAH Humbug!!! Humbug I say! :)
