If you've read my intro post in the new members forum, and I wouldn't assume I'm interesting interesting enough to think you necessarily have, you will already know that I've returned to the Amiga scene to reignite an old hobby as new.

So given the circumstances involved in why I've gone in search of you lot I'm due a run of good luck, right? Right?

So I picked this up today.

  • An A1200.
  • Internal hard drive (size to be determined...).
  • PSU.
  • Blizzard 68030 50MHz and 8MB RAM.
  • Squirrel PCMCIA SCSI interface.
  • Joystick splitter.
  • Action pad game controller thingie.
  • Logic3 mouse.
  • External floppy drive.
  • A bunch of games in their original boxes. Boxes and documents are in near mint condition.

So obviously this is the 1200. The case itself is in great shape! Very little if any yellowing though the keys are just a touch yellow. Still damn good though.

And it booted up to Workbench quicker than CrunchBang Linux does on my laptop :) The picture's a bit cack as the computer's just hooked up over video to my TV. Not bad all the same though.

The previous owner has left a ton of stuff on the HD spread across four partitions which will be fun trawling through.

SysInfo's on there for example. I can do without the FPU... :)

IMAG1108.jpg

And a whole bunch of games. Man, some of these bring back memories!

So how much did I pay for all this?

Would you believe <snip>...</snip> including delivery?

I barely believe it but that's exactly what it was.

Like I said, let's call it karma or something.

Sorry trooper, I had to edit your post as it could be seen as price driving / guiding, I know you didn't mean it this way so please don't worry. When you get a moment have a read of the rules and guidelines - it will explain in a lot more detail. Z

Andy beat me to it, this is price-driving , we don't want it here
Great setup though, enjoy!!!

That's a fantastic haul! Nicely done, sir. I hope you enjoy!

Oh, I've had to nip out your price though. We've got some strict rules on not discussing prices here on AmiBay (and besides, you'd just make everyone else upset!)

@trooper

Now that is a haul!!

well found sir - I am sure it has found the right new owner whom can give it the time it deserves - save me a seat when you load up Alien Breed!! ;)

Sorry trooper it looks like you have been victim of uber-moderation, this is when 2 or more wild staff members moderate the same post.... its a rare event.... as much as a blue moon.... you are blessed and gain 3,000 experience points ;)

Ah! Cheers Andy no bother at all. I had read the rules before my very first post but just understood it to apply to the for sale/wanted threads. The error is mine but all is abundantly clear now. Thanks for your help.

And f**k me, are you mods on the ball or WHAT?!

If the forum gets £ $ € or any other currency denominator posted i swear a bat signal goes up and they come swinging in from the rafters.
oh and btw.
Nice setup :)

no... actually we get an alert when this Shambles fellow submits a post....

..... oh.....

.... so a great haul that trooper picked up dont'cha think?

what a fantastic haul, your the one that has the same post over at eab right?

any chance of some lovely pictures of the blizzard?
so we can drool...i mean give advice on adding more memory depending on version.:D

It was clearly that shiny hardware haul you've just acquired. Threads about neat hardware snags attract mods like moths to a flame. We just can't resist some nice hardware pr0n!

Very nice A1200 you have. Time for a much deserved 32Mb SIMM stick, pending the Blizzard version you have. Up to the mk3 this is the maximum you can have.

The mk4 can have up to 128Mb in one stick and another 128Mb in the optional SCSI controller.

Well, I took the trapdoor off to see what model this accelerator card is and going through the Big Book Of Amiga Hardware it looks like I've been especially lucky in that this looks like a Blizzard Mk IV.

Is there anything special about the SIMM I need to be particular about or will any old SIMM do?

Man, and to think the hard drive I put into my A1200 back in the 90s was 80 MB.

LOL, we all use to have a 40/80Mb HD back in that era.

Any FPM/EDO SIMM will do, just beware about 3.3V SIMM intended for PentiumMMX era. They are easy to spot as they have an extra square-ish chip in the middle of the stick. Most of times those SIMMs are intended for laser printers only. The good point is they are not common.

Quite a delightful beast is the Blizzard Mk IV (and quite often sought after)

As my good friend and fellow AmiBayer rkauer states you can install up to 128MB of 72pin PS/2 SIMM (Single Iniline Memory Module) - not to be confused with DIMM's - they can be EDO or FPM but not ECC

the question is: do you "need" 128mb's of ram in it,i would say no not really.you would have to be a real power user to use all that.

if you have whdload on that machine,i mean the whole of the whdload games installed only one would come close to using it,and thats just games.

you could easy get away with 32mb's and never use it all.

just saying.

Understood, thanks.

The Blizzard accelerator I bought back then had an FPU and a whopping 16MB of RAM. I paid a ransom for it at the time from savings from my after school job and I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure it was north of £600 back then. I justified it at the time because of the amount of 3D stuff I was doing with Imagine.

Oh, I agree 100%. But it's no reason for not being a total greedy pig and sticking 128MB in there.

If I can get my hands on such a SIMM in the first place that is. They seem to be hard to get hold of these days.

But you could have 128mb just because you can! :p

Surely thats as good a reason as any? (Well, it is in my book anyway)

hell,thats a good enough reason for me:lol:

yep,but 32 and 64 mb simms are very easy to get and cheap.

also another reason for mentioning it is that some 128mb simms dont fit in there properly,i thought that would be worth mentioning.

You're right, of course. Anything over 16MB is going to be overkill for my needs but when the hardware's cheap I might as well go for the largest one that's available. Besides as Mrs Trooper will tell you :shhh: there's a certain amount of compensation going on as well. I mean, a 128MB Amiga will make me feel like a man.

That said, holymotherofgodandtheweedonkeysherodeinon, have you seen the price of these of these things on feeBay? I might raid a car boot this weekend and make plans for my retirement fund.
