I've pestered Amigakit.co.uk through their support system (subtle nudge to them to answer my customer support question

) and aememory.co.uk with regard to upgrading my measly 32mb edo for my lil miggy.

as you may or may not be aware, I've got a Blizzard 1260 Rev II board with flat ram slot.

the ram in there has chips both sides, measures 3mm in thickness and about 25mm in height. it doesn't sit flush but it snaps in and works nicely.

I'm looking to replace it with a 64mb simm. 128mb would be nice but I realise the height will be a problem. 50ns would be an absolute bonus as I do plan on replacing/oc'ing the 060 on it when i've got that kinda dosh to put into it

I'm savvy enough with a soldering iron to reseat my ram slot a little higher off the board, so I reckon i could stretch to about 5mm thickness. and with some modification to the heatsink I have on my early model 060, could stretch to about a 30mm height.

anymore and the heatsink will only cover half of the processor. it covers around 3/4 atm with the ram i currently have. I'd be worried about uneven heat across the surface if i had to reduce the heatsink below 2/3rds of the chip as it does get burning hot without a heatsink. although with the customised heatsink and a fan drawing air into my modded trapdoor it does run cool as a cucumber now.

so. Amigakit, aememory, EAB and Amibay..... I've got money to burn, can you help?

I bought one of these from Blankstare last year (or StrontiumDog as he's known now :coffee:)

https://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?t=23989

I'm happy to pass it onto you at the same price as I recently traded my Blizzy 1230 so it just sits in an AntiStatic bag :)

PM me if it's any good to you, is a 60ns part. (128mb)

ok lets try replying again. last one failed it seems.

what's the thickness of it? 31mm height seems ok but i'm worried about how thick it is.

my 1260 has the cpu sat closer to the ram socket so even my slim 3mm simm (1mm board, 1mm height of chip on both sides) sits at a slight angle. stupid design if you ask me

As per PM, I'm happy to send it to you to try before you buy

I don't have any way of accurately measuring it :coffee:

discussed in PM. sadly at 7mm that ones too thick..

I'm still looking if anyone has a 128mb thinner than 5mm. and for those without a ruler, thinner than a stack of 4 cd's :P failing that offers for 64mb that fit my size requirements are welcome

course: (
I have ordered 2 of these to Blizzard 1230 mk 4

can take pictures as they come, and measure how big they are, not to mention test them if they would work:)

thanks, but it doesn't say anywhere how thick it is. even then they say the image may not represent the actual item :(

That really annoys me about those sorts of listings. Why are you even bothering to upload photos to your auction if you can't be bothered to take a photo of the actual item?! One of those 72pin SIMM listings has a picture of 30pin SIMMs! I mean, what the hell is wrong with these people?

Thin small-outline package or TSOP simm's are few and far between when it comes to anything greater than 64mb in the 72 pin line. I believe the term "rarer than rocking horse droppings" is somewhat apt.

As simm thickness is an issue here, stick with a 64mb TSOP simm - you can find those easily, even on fleabay.

indeed.

i may just take another look at the socket to see how much i can raise it by. i think 2mm is about the limit though before i lose some of the strength holding it to the board.

i may have to just raise it anyway and risk it with a 7mm simm. if worse came to worst i can always use cable ties and hot glue :P

Spoken like a true modder! lol

Solder the SIMM holder to a short length of ribbon cable and the height of the SIMM won't matter, as it can be moved around.

Just a thought.

indeed it would be easier, but then i wouldn't be able to get the trapdoor on which is what is controlling the air sucked in over the heatsink.

dont think i'd even have room underneath without raising the wedge even higher off the desk anyway though right?

Not sure about ribbon cables for ram. Isn't it sensitive to long routes?

It would be a shame for you to mess around modding the Blizzard, if you'd like my super slim 64mb Kingston Simm you can have it for £15 posted

PM me if interested, it's about 2mm thick in total, very low profile chips.

All the best,

Steve.
