The SID still amazes me. It's hard to believe, looking back, that when the IBM PC was equipped with a whopping one unadorned square-wave generator, and more (*sniff*) gamey machines went as high as three and sometimes added single-stage envelopes, the Commodore 64 was on the shelves with what amounted to damn near a full Minimoog in it. Bob Yannes was a genius.

There were even kids living with colorclash and a beeper, when they could have had a c64 ;)

Although the C64 did have better sound which was amazing. I didnt like the way the C64 did graphics. In fact I rather a game to have more detail and be monochrome than have colour and less detailed.

When I look back at the Spectrum Vs C64 thing I see Gameboy vs Game Gear ... think about it.

C64 and Game Gear had the best graphics hands down but the gameboy and spectrum for me had detailed graphics which made all the difference.

Depends on what you like in your graphics... the C64's colour palette was more toned down compared to say, the Spectrum. Red was more a muted mix of red and brown, for instance. Yellow was more realistic next to the Spectrum's cartoonish yellow. I remember looking at the Commodore Format supplement that came with the C64 for a while and thinking they must have doctored the screenshots as there was a shot of Creatures and the sky was a blue that the C64 just didn't output, being very vibrant. I did wish sometimes that the colours would stick out more. But basically, you're looking at a more muted, more realistic palette versus a more cartoonish, garish one.

Observe - Way of the Exploding Fist on C64 and Spectrum. Ignoring the resolution and graphical definition differences, which colour palette do you prefer? -

I think the problem with the C64 is that it only supported 16 colors. If it had supported an increased palette and number of colors on screen (like the Atari), then this would have helped make up for the decreased resolution.

Ahh sweet chiptunes :D

Honestly I believe the graphics setup on the C64 is what gave it it's personality. That and the awesome sound :D

It looks like when i show my son how to color in his coloring books (the first), and then his try on the second. ;)

He had a spectrum but bought the c64 partly because of this game. ;)
