I think this is great idea and I doubt there would be any heat issues.
3000's do not have heat problems if you replace the pals with gals. (replacing the DMAC, Ramsey, and cpu fan won't hurt either.). The pals generate the majority of the heat in the box.
They are extremely cheap to replace as well..
My 3000 runs much cooler than my 4000.
