Wow. What an incredible weekend this was.
You are always a bit nervous when you drive from one end of the country to the other to meet up with total strangers. But this is Amiga, so how wrong could it go
After the long trip, entering Troels' apartment set the mood right away. The title music from Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 was playing on a couple of Amiga 500's, connected to good old CRT TV's.
I was greeted by Troels (TroelsDK) and Les (Phipscube) and as Les mentioned, it was like we knew each other right away. No awkward silences or anything, just unfiltered sharing of Amiga experiences and history.
I went straight for Les' beast of an Amiga 1200, and it is truly a work of art, that one. He even improved it further from the stuff he posted here, but I will not spoil that here

.
After a short while, Michael came a long and he went straight for Lotus with Troels while Les and I were still talking about his Amiga stuff and messing about with my setup.
Then TbTorro came along and, shortly after introducing himself, announced that be brought a bag of lucky-dips for everybody - what a nice gesture!
We went for some supplies, and then the gaming truly began. We played Lotus 2 in 4 player link mode, and as Les mentioned, many of us were fooled by the gear display and mistook it for the race positions

oh:. "Why is everybody in 5th place?" - we all had a bit of a laugh on that one

But to our defense the game really doesn't tell you clearly who is ahead
Kim came along, and the others played some Supercars II while Les and I tried to make Troels' Amiga 1200 boot up the Workbench. The lucky dips came in handy as the LEDs were busted on Troels' Amiga 1200, so the spare LED board from one of the lucky-dip bags got installed instead. It is always nice to see an Amiga rise from its sickbed like that

.
Then we booted up Dynablaster in 5-player mode! Troels has a 4-player adapter and with a player on keyboard, the 5-player versus mode of this game can really compete with the later revisions of the Bomberman (Bomberman=Dynablaster) franchise.
Then we played some Micro Machines 2 on the Super Nintendo, just to remind us how awesome the Amiga really is, compared to other systems

This was great fun too, but after a short while, the Amigas were connected again, playing a lot of the classic games.
Kim and I played one of my favorite games, Speedball 2, and we beat each others players up pretty well. This game is one of those classics that never gets old.
Beers, waffeling and gaming went on into the night, even though TbTorro and Phipscube had to leave after a while.
Sunday was spent messing around with both hardware and software. Troels' Amiga 1200 was set up with a ClassicWB installation and TbTorro returned to feed his Amiga 600 with an accelerator and an Indivision ECS that unfortunately didn't want to play with us on that day anyway.
One of Troels' Amiga 500's was in bad shape as it needed ROMS and was unstable. We bugtracked it and found out that the internal power plug was acting up. Troels was very motivated and took the motherboard out, and then I resoldered the connector, restoring the machine to a perfect working state
ClassicWB and WHDLoad was installed on TbTorro's Compact Flash, so now he can finally utilize the registration key he bought many years ago. To test it out, I demonstrated how to install games and TbTorro brought a perfect candidate to test with: A "little" game called Simon The Sorcerer, which came on "only" 9 floppies :wooha:
Oh well, we gave it a shot and prayed that all the old disks would still work. Only one of the disks gave us read errors, but after clicking retry three times, it actually pulled that weak sector from the disk
After eating some pizza, we packed up and I went to TbTorro's place to pick up a spare keyboard for my Amiga 1200 and a floppy drive and browse his extensive stock of retro goodies. This ended up being a like trip to a retro museum, booting up old laptops with Windows 3.1 and seeing stuff I didn't even know existed. The waffling-factor was indeed high, also on my part, and I ended up leaving a lot later than expected, only arriving home a while into the night. But to be honest, I have no problem trading some sleep with experiencing all the great stuff that we retro collectors treasure.
This weekend was truly a perfect mix of gaming, modding, talking, drinking and admiring retro stuff - it was by far worth the long drive and bridge toll for me!
We set the bar pretty high this time, but lets meet up again sometime and do this again. If we keep up this level of quality, we might even end up reviving The Party
