I have just built a low end PC from parts and I'm looking at graphic cards...things have moved on a bit from when i looked last :-)

If i wanted to play modern is'h games from last year say what would i need ?

I'm looking at the ATI r9 280 or the HD 7980 / 90

just wondered what you guys used?

mike. :-)

PC spec

AMD quad core 3.4 mhz
4gb ram
ATI something or another
SSD HD
500watt modular PSU
crap case.
water cooling for CPU

One thing I've noticed is that some games required 8gb and Windows 64... I'm on Windows 7 x86 with 4gb...

the new COD is GPU R9 270 recommended.
Alien isolation R9 270
Arma 3 HD4870
Assassins creed R9 270
battlefield 4 HD7870
farcry 4 R9 290

my GPU is in need of an upgrade but still holds its own at 1080p, GTX570 (not on your poll)

PC spec

Intel i7 2600k 3.4ghz @ 4.4ghz
Asus P8Z77-I DELUXE motherboard
8gb dual channel G-skill DDR3 1600mhz RipjawsX
Gainward Nvidia 570 GTX
Sandisk Ultra 120gb SSD
WD Green 2TB Sata HDD
Corsair CX600M ATX PSU
Coolmaster Elite 130 Mini-ITX Case
Corsair CWCH80 Hydro Series Water cooling for CPU
Plextor PX-B950SA Internal Blu-Ray Write

xbox 360 wireless receiver for the all important couch gaming,

this rig is under my tv and doesnt look out of place next to my HP Micro Server, xbox 360 slim, 3DO and WII-U all black ofcourse :D
connected to my 50" Sony bravia LED TV.

The system in near silent until i stress the GTX 570 which can sound like a small hoover :D, thats why after xmas im saving for the 980GTX 4gb, I want this one for the lower power requirement and lower temps than the ATI cards. im also going for a reference design so the hot air is expelled out of the rear of the case not just moved inside the case like the windforce cards etc do. need that heat of of the case not circulating though my PSU fan.

Hi Mike, I'm just upgrading my ATI 7950 3gb to an nVidia GTX970 4gb.

The 7950 is awesome with most of the latest games (i.e COD Advanced Warefare is perfectly smooth @1080p on max settings!) I do however get a bit of stuttering with Ubisoft's offerings which is the same with all ATI cards I understand.

I was going to move it to my AMD PC which currently runs a GTX660 2gb but it wont fit in the case (it's a beast!) I'll be running 2x GTX660's in SLI instead!

I'll be moving the 7950 on soon, if you're interested I'll do you a good deal :)

It's this one: http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-683.shtml

yes they do, (not to be confused with a wireless controller connected via the USB play & charge kit, still need wireless reciever)

i probably can't find it anyway, not seen it for 12 months :-)

You can use the wireless ones too with an adapter, that's what I do :)

oh right :-) i better look at that

Just ordered a receiver

I have got a HD7970 in my main system and a HD5870 in my lounge system. However I am after a new GTX970 for Christmas (it was a PS4 but Elite Dangerous has changed that). The best value one I have found so far is the Palit 970 Jetsream for £256 inc VAT and delivery

None of the above. Running GTX560 OC in mine. Quite happy with it.

My main computer is from 2010 - Phenom X6 1055 it had GTX 460 1GB but I swaped it for HD5450 - I just don't game much.

None of the above ?

The best I have is an Nvida GeForce 8800 GTX

Old Skool but awesome. I used to run them in SLI back in the day with my ABIT Fatal1ty Mobo and AMD X2 4400+/DDR400 :D

I'm using an XFX 6950 2GB XXX DoubleD. No need to upgrade yet as it runs everything current perfectly well alongside a 2600K i7 at 4GHz, 32GB DDR3 ram etc..

I use AGA graphics mainly, but there is plenty of good stuff that runs fine with ECS/OCS
