More packaging idiocy!

Well, no visible damage - I'm off to see if it works, then check the battery for leakage!
 
NNNGH! Who puts an item in a box a good six times too large and then only fills in a third of the box with packing!? :wooha: It's pure luck it didn't get damaged...
 
ROFL You should rename to "The art of packing" and ask to make it sticky.

P.S. I'm loughing, because here, in Japan, unless you ask to pack AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE, you will get at least double size box filled with someones local adz and newspapers :)
 
I once purchased a Dreamcast with 5 games and 2 controllers from a moran in UK via the other bay. The frakker send it in gorram PLASTIC BAG!!!!
Ofcause all the chrystal boxes for the games were pulverised, but the DC actually (through some miracle) worked };-{O
 
Glad it's given some amusement! Also glad it's survived the tender caresses of the courier - it being damaged would have been a real shame because despite the yellowing (which the photo doesn't really show), it's in surprisingly good condition - and the floppy drive purrs like a kitten!

It does make me wonder, though - are couriers more careful with items that are visibly poorly packaged?
 
Someone once sent me a Cybervision 64/3d just wrapped in an A3 sheet of paper. Obviously the card was broken in half.... :double

That's nothing. I once had a computer sent to me in a box three times bigger but with NO filling! :double

i started using "FRAGILE" tape on my xboxes that i sold.
the very 1st box i put that tape on i watched the courier carry it down the drive and right at the gate he dropped the box from shoulder height on to the floor..
always watch them, never had the done that before. and i decided not to use the fragile tape again. and never seen them do it again either..

lucky enough the xbox was well packaged so it didnt suffer any damage and all the internal components were fine..

but i do believe that puting a sticker saying "FRAGILE" on a box makes couriers play the "lets see how fragile this really is" game:thumbsdown:
 
I would never buy an old CRT off ebay again! A while back i bought a 17" CRT monitor for an old DOS box that i was putting together... It arrived taped up in brown parcel paper and nothing more :o. The speakers that attach to the sides had snapped off (no doubt the courier was using them as handles :dry:), and it had an annoying whistling sound. To the tip it went (and luckily i got a full refund).
 
Both Dell and HP are notorious for "Over Packaging" and have been for years. Best we got in was from Dell for 4 laptop harddrive screws. Sent in a Dell monitor (17 inch CRT) box!
 
I once received an A4000 like this. :o :o :blink: :blink:


Shocking thing was: it worked! Except for the Merlin card, but that was advertised as broken...

I don't mind people using larger than necessary boxes (guilty of this myself in the past) as long as there's sufficient packing material to immobilize the contents.

Worst experience of bad packing I've had was a Sega Nomad and games that were incorrectly packed for a transatlantic voyage from the USA. Everything just chucked loose into a big box. The Nomad's screen got damaged in transit. :(
