Mike, you wouldnt want to see my A500 with GVP HD8 running Dos 622 and MS Windows 3.0 by any chance?

Serious.....

My A500 is loaded with the stock 68000, there is a KCS power PC card in the expansion slot.
Runs full VGA output though using the OCS chipset.............but slowly

TC ;)

ha ha ...

i was thinking about an 060 @50 @60 @66 or @80 mhz with a bundle or ram really :-)

i just wondered what speed 486 it could emulate ?

Had one in the past, it's a good solution for the old progams. Sad thing is do not go using word perfect 6 etc...

I never gave pc task a go - had one of those emulation cards for 8088 was very impressed with the integration in workbench.

I see pc tasks runs slow but it really is great looking at the age of the amiga platform.

I had a 486 @ 25mhz on an a4000, golden gate I think it was , it was ok but slow

@tc that's the 8088 on the CPU card in the hdd isn't it?

I bet that's Slooooow :-)

Nope. the GVP PC286 is a 16mhz 286 cpu claming to run 15 times faster than the original ibm pc. it also has 512kb of fast memory exclusivly for pc, and can also use amiga memory. it emulates hercules, cga and ega/vga in moncrom plus the beeper. it also has an optional 287 fpu.

(well, at least that is what the box says. got one right here)

Really, that's quicker than I thought . I must be thinking of the A500 side expansion not the gvp add on ...

Yes your right the gvp add on is a 286

I'm interested in what pc task (software) can do on a fast CPU in the Amiga really.

I think pc task has been released in to the wild by the developer , I wonder if the source code is out too?

Dos box on 3.x anyone?

PC-Task is an awesome piece of software, very clean. It sometimes crashes itself, but never crashes the system.
It will run faster with your RTG board rather than AGA because there is no conversion needed.
On my 060 systems, i can run perfectly windows 3.1 and almost any games up to 1994, except 3D games such as alone in the dark.
However, my Bridgeboard with 386@25MHz is about 4 times faster than PCTask 060@50, and a lot more with my 486SLC2@50 upgrade. The bridgeboard is not as clean programmed than PCTask though.
About the hardware emulator for the A500, the better and faster is the ATonce Plus, which goes on the CPU socket with a fast 286.

That's very interesting , thank you for the info.

I'm surprised that the 386 board is 4x quicker than software emulation on a 060@50mhz

But that's emulation I guess .

I never use pc task, but i have 2 PC emulation cards for AMIGA
- A2088T
- ATonce Plus
interesting hardwares, but terribly slow :)

I may have to get myself an other 486 golden gate card

What an interesting thread - as bizarre as this must sound, on my wish list for my A600 with ACA is to install PC Task and get a copy of Windows 3.1 running :D. I think it is a curiosity thing with me, as back in 95/96 my mate was running a stock A1200 with PC Task to complete all his Pascal assignments so I am really curious to see what would have been with a faster modded Amiga I would have ended up with if I had not have gone down the IBM PC route instead!

How do you get DOS 6.22 onto an Amiga as from memory, DOS was on high density 1.44mb disks rather than the lower density 1mb disks the Amiga used.

Cool thread

i too am interested in this, how fast do we think PCTask would perform on an 060@80mhz? approx 104mips, it should be quite quick shouldn't it?

if an 060 is very roughly running at pentium 1 speeds, in theory shouldn't win95 be possible? (scratch that, as i know the emulation side of it alone would be using all the cpu time)

lol sorry for the mad ramblings again

I run Windoze 3.0 on my 50MHz 030 A1200. It is 'just' about useable speed wise!

Don't expect to use it on a day by day basis because you'll soon want to throw it through the window :p

I wouldn't honestly - I just wanted to tinker with a virtual machine on an Amiga before the phrase was ever coined!!!!

My poor old 030 will have to convert every single x86 instruction so I bet it will be painfully slow in the extreme...

How did you get DOS into your Amiga to install with PCTask if you don't mind me asking?
