Last units of this IDE interfaces for MSX, MSX2 & MSX2+

It is an interface that allows to connect IDE disks and certain types of CF cards, making it possible to easily transfer files from the PC to the MSX and vice versa.

Interesting extension for our MSX/MSX2/MSX2+ which allows you to manage up to four 32 MB FAT partitions in one only support storage, plenty of software at lower cost than a interface of floppy and a disk drive, as well as being between 5 and 10 times faster than these.

My package arrived a half hour ago and I have been playing with it and it is BRILLIANT!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

My MSX is a Toshiba HX-10 64K does anyone know what the microswitch in the back of the cartridge bay is for? it doesn't seem to do anything because the interface works without the switch being activated (I assume a cartridge case would activate it).

Thanks for the great communications and speedy despatch, this is definitely a great product

Received today! All OK! Thanks Sinclair 

I'm glad you were satisfied Thanks also to you two.

I still have (now yes) the LAST 2 units, for those who want to enjoy too.

Before this thread is closed, I'd like to state that I finally had the time last weekend to test the device, which I bought on a previous sale.
First off, I need to point out that thought I acquired a Sony Hit-bit 75-B MSX1 about 10 years ago, I didn't so much as turn it on all that time!

So I never had any experience with MSX computers before I tested the HD adapter + compactFlash last weekend.
... and it work like a charm !
It's easy to use, it's fast.. it's great !

Just a question thought : where can I find documentation about how to switch from a 32MB partition to another, or manage the sofware selection interface ???

Thanks.

Thomas.

Hi Thomas, you already know that there are 4 32 mb partitions (DRIVES) A,B.C and D

When you have booted the adapter press ESC till you get the prompt A>
You can then see all the files on the A: drive by typing dir

A>dir will give you a full list of all files
or
A>dir *.bas (or rom etc)
or
A>dir g*.* will give you a list of anything that starts with g in this example.

A>dir g*.rom etc will list all the rom files that start with g in this example.

You can also copy any or all files to another drive by typing
COPY A:*.* B: (or C: or D:)
or
COPY A:filename.rom B: etc

And to get to say drive B just type B: (you don't need to use capitals) and to load a .ROM game you would type LOADROM L-RUNNER.ROM or LOADROM ZAXXON.ROM etc or whatever else you can download again you don't need to type in capitals.

Realistically you should copy all the files that windows can see to a folder on your PC and then copy the CF card or Microdrive that you have to another drive of the same size. If its a CF card like mine, you need a 128 mb CF card preferably Sandisk and use Win32DiskImager to copy your original (you have to put a name in the box at the top of the program ie MSX card.img etc for it to read the drive. My computer gets to read 99% and then comes up with a handler error and freezes Win32DiskImager which will shut down, however the image has been created and you just need to put your backup drive in place of the original and run Win32DiskImage again an look in the folder to find your saved .IMG file and load it, make sure your drive is selected in device and the select write and it will do a working image of the original drive.

I used Win32DiskImager-0.9.5-install.exe which is free and mentioned in a previous thread for this adapter.

Hopefully this will help you on your way ;)

Like you I have never used one of these until I got the adapter so I am still learning how to load things

Thanks a lot Allen1, your info is highly appreciated !

I didn't realize how close to MSDOS these MSX DOS commands look.

Sorry for not answering before.

You can change the active unit (partittion) and copy files the same way you would on a PC with MS-DOS. Remember that features 32MB in each of the 4 partitions available.

To copy files to the CF from your PC, if you use MS-DOS all partitions of this are ascesibles, however in Windows can only see the first. This is not an inconvenience because from the MSX system you can move files without problems from the main partition to any other.

As you see, MSX-DOS is very similar to MS-DOS, it is actually a shortened version of this from which you can use the same commands copy files between units similarly.
