Hi mfilos

Is the memory SIMM you're using on the BPPC a single-sided 128MB one?
I'm looking for a similar SIMM that wont interfere with the keyboard!

No mate, both SIMMS are both-sided slim 128MB ones, with no issues with the keyboard.

Impressive machine..
most impressive to me is the way you neatly put all the cables, in the right length.
this is what takes 90% of the time when I try to do such things, and usually I end up with having a birdsnest anyway.

With all the gadgets you have there.. all you need now is a reset button :readit:

though it's french it has pictures ;-)
http://amigaga.chez-alice.fr/classic/bidouilles/hack/reset/reset_a1200.htm

it's a truly pleasure to see such good work!!

Thanks for feedback... but what do I need the reset button when I already have Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga? I know about the reset mod and how to do it but I never really had the need for it.
Unless you mean, needing reset capability when messing around without upper case+keyb attached (but then again it's easy to short circuit these 2 pins for the reset to occur :)

Just an info for the upgrade that progresses slow...
I removed the Floppy drive (since I have no real use for it) being able to use external ones, in order to mount inside a Delfina I have (via DJBase's 4way clockport expander) along with the ACard+CF combo that was kinda big to fit in other places. OFC the floppy header took an terminator (not to delay my boot).
Only thing needed is good rerouting and mounting of all hardware in good place in order for me to be able to close the damn case once and for all :)

Will post progress via pics after my short 2 weeks vacation in the following weeks.

Cheers

I agree about the reset button, alittle overkill, but would look nice next to all the other gadgets around the casing

There's a solution that never fails to bring a smile to the face when in trouble.

2nd attempting at writing this after my Windows machine choked on my first attempt lol...

Hope no one minds me updating this so it pops to the top of the forum again, but I had to just say very well done, top project :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Also what a fabulous range of upgrades the Amiga community has produced over the years - the fact that you managed to get Linux to run on the origins of what are a 17 year old computer is staggering really:thumbsup::)

Is the PowerPC board the last major accelerator development for the A1200? I guess it must be by now, but what a run for such a humble little computer :):bowdown:

Well done, looking forward to reading the A600 project now:D

Adrian

Thx for the kind words ad-rs1600i.

The BPPC was indeed the last major accelerator afaik, since no SharkPPC hit the market. OFC other 060's exist like Blizz/Apollos etc, but no other with PPC support plus PCI expansion slot for Graphics Card or PCI Busboard.

Trying to horde some free time the last weeks to just finish this project and the A600 one, cause it's kinda sad to see both miggies on my office table opened doing nothing for so long :)
I can't also just close them down without doing the neccesary arrangements/hacks for Delfina, ACard, Slim DVDRW etc, for everything to work as intended :)

Just hope to have some updates soon enough :)

Cheers and thx again for the interest

Send them my way, I'll finish them ;)

No problem, credit where credit is due! :)

No rush to finish them, half of everything is the actual journey rather than the destination I find :)

I think also if they were mine I would stick with software for the Amiga specifically rather than Linux etc. - simply because it might struggle running a cutting edge (well latest) OS and under value what is a great achievement by both yourself and all the 3rd party hardware manufacturers who have made it possible :)

Really cool - btw do you know if the Defina card will work with Octamed, and whether it has an internal microphone socket to sample sound? Cheers:)

I couldn't agree more about the Actual Journey than the Destination :)

As I said in the past, despite beefing all the OSes I could stick in my A1200, i use 99% OS3.9. For alternative OSes I use anyway my Mac Mini with registered MOS and Mac, while I never found any actual usage of OS4.0 classic.
Debian was an experiment that I needed to try, just because few have actually succeeded due to missing parts (specific NICs that work, removed repos etc). It took me a full weekend to succeed and I was happy I did it. Don't think I'm gonna try it more though but it's nice to have in an extra partition. Size is never an issue anywayz :)

As for Delfina, I don't know much stuff yet cause I never actually tried her in my A1200. Other peepz will have better knowledge on this part.

Cheers

Hi ad-rs1600i,

The Delfina apparently does work with Octamed Sound Studio using Toccata soundcard emulation (According to the manual and also the Toccata emulation is provided with the Delfina drivers). I do have a Delfina and Octamed Sound Studio, but i've not tried to load it up yet. I'm away from my dear 'Miggy until January otherwise i'd try it for you. The Delfina also has a microphone input as well as a line input and 2 aux inputs. Hope this helps you. BTW it is an awesome soundcard so if you are considering getting one, I give it thumbs up! :)

Thanks for that :) It really highlights how everything has changed as all sound cards even the £5 quid cheap ones have an inputs these days, unlike back in the day when you needed a deadicated sound sampler to get sound in!!

I thought it might, but my logic was a bit Windows'ee in that I assumed the Delfina card has workbench drivers to use the card, and then Octamed simply uses the card through workbench - obviously not, boy have I got loads to learn - when I was 13 y/o I used to just chuck the disks in and not worry about how it actually worked!? :)

I am tempted to buy one of those cards, I guess it will depend on whether I can get a better graphics option of the clock port(?)

Please drop me a PM when you finally test it - BTW what is a miggy? (sorry lol)

No updates for long due to excessive work and wedding plans ahead...

But today... I received Ratte's Automatic AGA/RTG switch to replace my Amiga's UMON adapter.:bowdown::bowdown:

The package contained all the necessary stuff for different setups:

After disconnecting the installed cabling into UMON, and after installing Ratte's Switch and Software on User-Startup everything worked like a charm!!!

You can give a quick sneak peak in the following YouTube link that I uploaded some mins ago. :)

Awesome work Ratte!

...More to come soon...

OMG that is AWESOME!! Its exactly what I need for my A1200!!! I've never heared of this little gem, how do I get one of these?! *HEAVY BREATHING!!* :D

@Phipscube
I know u do! LOL
AFAIK Ratte made a limited batch of these and I grabbed one @ the spot. Wasn't cheap either but it was well worth it. You can contact Ratte in A.org or EAB.

Thanks mfilos :) I have contacted him, and I found the thread over on A org. Fantastic piece of hardware! And i'm happy to see you are progressing with this awesome machine of yours, when i'd seen your thread updated I was all excited

These days I've been working almost every night on my beloved A1200 so I'd though of a little more update to the thread :)

So far I made the following:
- Removed UMON (AGA/RTG switch) that I had with a manual switch
- Removed Jumpers plus Fast 10 pin header from Idefix Express Gayle Adapter plus the Fast 10pin header from Idefix Express Adapter since they were messing with the height of the internal DVD-RW. Ofc these were replaced by a ribbon soldered underneath of both PCBs.
- Installed my spare EZkey that I had after removing some component sockets that would never be used (since they were messing with my BVision) and soldered it with an ultra cool custom PS2 plug that will be installed on the right side (next to USB plug). You can't imagine how convenient is having an external keyboard for messing in the OS while the internal keyboard is not installed. Since space exists... why not?
- Installed (Finaly!) the ACard (next to my custom power lines). I couldn't believe how perfect it fitted along with an IDE Male-->Female extension cable that I bought in the past. BPPC's SCSI to 50pin M cable mounted also just fine in a custom 3cm 50pin F-F into ACard's socket and everything works perfectly!

I'm attaching a quick video that I took (this time from my Cybershot) showing the auto switching of Ratte's outstanding switch plus some SysInfo drive speed tests on both ACard+Idefix Express after my mods :D
- http://rapidshare.com/files/434220722/A1200DPPC.mpg

(Soz for the RS link but uploading to YouTube after video editing it, was boring enough for me atm. After I finish I will make a better YouTube video anywayz)

If you watch it carefully (around 15-18 secs of the video) you will see that the DVD-RW+CF2IDE adapter that connects to Idefix Express is shown upside down and you'll see that the CF has a weird angle...
Nope I'm not crazy... I did that on purpose since when Idefix will move, and DVD-RW will mount the CF2IDE+CF was giving me a height that wasn't appropriate. That way I managed with an free angle, to be able to stuff CF2IDE under the DVD-RW and just before PicoPSU!!!
Don't laugh with the design. I just took a pic from BBOAH and used paint to just show you how I thought to implement it :)

Now I'm waiting now a 44pin cable extension from AmigaKit for moving Idefix Express in order to install permanently the internal DVD-RW+CF2IDE adapter. Next steps will be mounting Ratte's switch along with the power connector in a nice custom metal backplate (with the help of Keropi). I'm also waiting a nice 3way (on-off-on) switch from eBay for mounting it in the old UMON's switch position (in case manual switching is required for OS4.0, MOS and Debian).

Soon more to come with some better quality pictures :)
