My connection is slow, at 53Mbps. That's Mega BITS per second. I'm in a shared broadband accomodation, so I have to put up by with what they supply, the internet infrastructure is out of my hands.

I can watch streaming TV with it, but it's really noticeable when trying to download games.

what you used WIFI or Ethernet ?

Well if you have unlimited data from your cell provider you could tether your phone and likely get blazing speeds until you hit the 23GB/month mark like on Verizon at which you drop down to a few kilobytes/second!

sound like your wifi connection is probably 802.11g, this is limited to 54Mbps (either that or you are just capped at 50Mbps on your share of the connection)

(802.11g is literally 20yo technology, established in 2003)

most things these days are 802.11ac (up to 6.9Gbps) or better

this would require a better router/wifi connection, or a wired connection. (at barest minimum a wired connection will be 100Mbps on an older device, but typically 1000Mbps these days, and 10Gbps, 40Gbps and 100Gbps are available)

my current phone, which is a Samsung S20 FE, 3 years old already and uses Wifi 6 (802.11ax) which supports up to 9.6Gbps. (unfortunately my internet provider cannot sell me thier 1Gbps service due to the ancient (1982) wiring in our building)
