My little rant about "RARE" items.

To me it always seems that the seller is either unsure what it is they have got exactly, or that they also believe that people might not know it's "rare", because their prospective customers are slightly dim and don't know exactly what they are looking at either, so have to be told it's RARE, just in case. Plus it justifies the rather silly price.
It's also probably likely to be because the extent of their research on the item extends only to eBay. Everyone else has put RARE in their title, ergo, it must be RARE.

With that in mind, most people who actually know what they are looking at, would only buy the item if the price is right, or it does indeed include some choice bits which have accidentally made it into the listing, to which the seller is likely to be completely oblivious too. ;)
Basically, the seller is likely to be a little clueless about what it is they have got, and will probably wrap it in crisp packets and cereal boxes if you decide to bid on it, and actually win.

It will be a long time before a C64 is rare. Even a C64-Owned-By-thecellartroll is not particularly rare! Its a pretty poor sales tactic to be honest. As soon as I see "rare" in the title I ignore the listing. Even for something that is genuinely rare it doesn't add anything to the information that prospective buyers are looking for it just subtracts immediately from your trustworthiness as a seller.

The sales tactic is not necessarily poor (but most definitely annoying). Yes, YOU (and many other people) would ignore the listing without looking, but you are not the target. The seller only need 1 idiot buyer. So the item goes up, and just hangs there for 60 days, and then repeat. In the end listing an item for 3x60 days will worth the outrageous selling price.

ultra Rare

and

You will not be disappointing are very annoying words for me!

I have an extremely rare US $1 bill. One of a kind. No other one has ever had these serial numbers, and there will never be another! I can let it go for only £99!
