Was talking in another unrelated thread today which reminded me i needed to send my Sam Coupe motherboard off for repair (been meaning to do it for ages) and thought i'd test it again before I sent it. With the board stripped down to nothing the thing fired up despite all my previous checks. Very happy but competely puzzled. Anyone else on here got a Sam Coupe?

I don't have one myself, but my mate is a big fan of the coupe. Been looking for Lemmings on it to give to him as a present in fact.

Had many great times on... well, I can't remember the games. Prince of Persia is great. There is a bouncing ball game where you go up and up similar in gameplay to Zub, and a puzzle game similar to pipemania.

Great times!

Now that I have a working machine I can start working my way through the hundreds and hundreds of disks that came with it. There is an original Lemmings in the box with this lot - if I find a second one i shall let you know :-)

Obviously something you removed is what was causing the problem (either electrically or physically). What did you remove? Try re-fitting the parts individually until the problem retruns, then you'll know what's broken.

Bryce.

Already done all of that - all back together and working. I may have found the problem though. I suspect the scart lead i am using is no good (fully wired) for starters, also the TV I am using isn't handling RF too well which I have sorted by turnign off AFT. I'll be checking the scart pinouts later but right now I can confirm that everything is working as expected on RF.

retro pr0n coming up....

Unfortunately I need to pack it away in it's box now and try an put my house back in order before the wife sees what i have done. I have my mancave for this stuff as she keeps reminding me ;-)

glad your little Sam is back in working order :-)

have you put the house back or...

Yeah, i have found that info - i could do it myself but have decided to buy one off of Quazar (www.samcoupe.com) as that is his field. I checked the scart lead that came with it and it's not fully wired, works (ish) one way round but not the other. Opened it up and it's a mess in there so not even going to attempt to modify it.

Not a great deal of sam related stuff out on the interwebs, what there is is pretty fragmented so finding that sort of info was quite hard. FYI, you rarely see a Sam these days... the othebay has three of them on there - i am watching incase they are goign to sell for sensible money :-)

I bought my lead from Quazar, they only work one way round. I have a couple of SAMs, one nice 512KB one with an Atom Hard Drive interface in it and a slightly battered 256K version with no floppy but an Atom Lite CF interface.

There is definitely a lack of information for the SAM on the internet, you have to hunt about for the slightest bit of information

I have three, as well as two boxes and 3 loose motherboards that need fixing... Oh and 2 spare Asics...

I used to have a SAM Coupe, one of the first MGT ones :) Nice machine but I think it came out too late to make the impact it deserved :(
Loved the BASIC written by Dr. andy Wright, who wrote BETA-BASIC for the Spectrum, I met him at a Computer Fair once. A claim to Fame...lol
I think I had most of the add-on's, and wasn't there a progamble interface with LED's or something?

I love my SAM, always fun to play with. What disks do you have, would be interested to know as software is
getting harder to find and disks are failing. Would be good to get a good working central repository of images.

I have started this and have a few cassette 'wav' files.
