nanoSID's i am offering has the latest available firmware.
this beep - is a self test tone, it can be disabled if You don't like it (in Firmware)

Second question: Can you post more information about your "cheap PLA replacement" mentioned in the original post?

It is just a cheap PLA replacement, picture of it may be seen in this thread: (third picture, left from MixSID) was tested on several boards with Final Cartridge Pro and Easy Flash Carts - works great
