Hi!
I'm selling this NEC PC88VA2 computer i've purchased from yahoo auctions some weeks ago. It needs repairs and as I some other computers to maintain, I'll put this on sale.
PC88VA2 is a model between the pc88 and pc98 computers, as it has a CPU which supports complete Z80 opcodes, and it's compatible with pc8801 V1 and V2 modes, and it adds a V3 mode with support for sprites, scroll and thousand of colors on screen. VA2 is better than first VA model because of improved pc8801 compatibility and also YM2608 opna Sound board like later pc8801 models (VA only has YM2203)
This is not an easy to see machine on sale, and thus is not cheap, also is heavy, about 13kg so japan shipping was also expensive :-/
I'm selling this one at the same I paid for it: 560 eur (shipping and paypal fees on buyers behalf, if not using paypal friends & family)
The computer is in very nice looking condition, and it even has some conector protectors.
First thing I did was open it up completely and cleaning and removing the battery board... unfortunately battery already leaked out so there are some traces affected... I've cleaned the zone with vinegar and IPA alcohol, but it does affect the computer so it needs revision, and although i've not seen any bad capacitor, i'm sure it should be replaced too
After this, I mounted the computer again and tested it.
It works, although screen shows white vertical lines, and sound makes clicks and noises
Both floppy drivers do work, i've managed to copy two 5.25 floppys with N88basic I have from my pc8801ma2, so I'm including both disks (N88basic and some small basic programs in the second floppy)
This is just for the computer, you'll need a pc88 keyboard (i managed to use my pc8801 type D keyboard from my pc8801ma2 which has a little switch in the bottom to change and allow it to be used with PC88VA computers, not sure if other pc8801 keyboards do have this switch (its hidden inside one of the foldable legs)
And of course a 220v-110v or 100v if you live in a 220v area
I'll include two 5.25 floppy disks, and a DB15-VGA cable so you can hook up the computer to any monitor capable of 15/24khz modes (i'm using one LCD monitor from NEC)
I can provide technical info on this model (circuits), and anyone interested can request any aditional info, photos and videos, I want to be sure you know exactly what you are buying
