I've been threatening to do this for the longest time! But finally we have some R&D time at work so made a start on the Neo Geo Bartop, I hope to have this ready for Geek in March.

I'm waiting for a few bits to arrive such as UniBios and some buttons. We're going to laminate the cab in red and use acrylic for the top part with LED's behind, we're going to cut the white lettering on vinyl and apply to the sides (we have a plotter) the only part to print will be a Neo Geo Logo somewhere. Maybe for the acrylic so that is lights up through. There's acrylic over the screen too, we're going to try a faded edge surround using a series dots on the plotter, hopefully will work!

Going to mount the mini amp on the back of the cross section for the screen, using controller extension cables to wire up the buttons and stick. Select will offer coin function once I get the UniBios :)

Here's a few pics:

Looks cool Steve. Is the cartridge still swappable? It looks pretty tight in there.

Bryce.

Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah it's going to be pretty tight, it's a 161-1 Cart so I wont be changing it :)

Still considering where to put the speakers (sides I guess) Just don't want to ruin the artwork possibility.

My Consolised MVS also has a 161-1 installed, but I left room to swap it, in the mis-guided belief that I would one day buy a second cartridge.

Buy some car speaker mesh covers (dirt cheap on the interwebs) and put one on each side.

Bryce.

Ah, the speakers were supposed to come with covers, I will check the box lol!

The Cart can still come out, it'll just be tight! And has to in a couple of weeks for the UniBios, It's socketed which makes that job nice and easy.

Great work. Really nice done.

I have made several bartops in the last 4 years. Is that glass in front of the screen or plexiglass? Personally I prefer glass, it gives a nice feeling to the bartop, but it makes bartop heavier. The wood panels are cnc cut or by hand? Also, I believe that bartops with t-molding look great, what do you think? I always install the amplifier in front, below controls, so the user can easy adjust the sound (especially in mame games where almost each game has a different level of sound). I also have a neo geo mvs pcb with the same cartridge. If I remember right, each game is in the same sound level? If that so, then you won't have to open the back and adjust the sound level so often.

Looking forward to see the final result.

Thanks for the kind words, it's cut by hand from a template, the guys make exhibition stands for a living so it will be a pretty sweet finish, will be laminated with an edging strip, we might have some T moulding on the rack to use.

Nice tip for the audio controls however as you say I think the neo geo games are a similar level. It's going to be a bit tight for space but we're going to have the top panel removable.

Tested and working great, just waiting for the guys to laminate the panels and then I can crack on with the build. All parts here except one joystick cable...

I'm still hopeful to have it ready for Cheltenham but up against the clock now as the guys have been busy with a massive activation for BA (Six nations)

Here's the latest:

Hoping to sort the Graphics and LED's in the next couple of weeks :ninja:

Impressive, what screen did you choose?

I can't wait to get sound n music on neo geo core on MiSTer.

Hi Mate,

Thanks for the kind words.

It's just an LCD TV I picked up on eBay locally for 20 Squids, it was a total gamble that it would fit and it slotted in 5mm to spare :D

Plan is to put some cut Vinyl around the display area.

The Video is take RGB-Scart from the SuperGun and Sound goes to the Amp/Speakers which is powered by the ATX PSU.

Making a back for it today, just a piece of foamex panel held on by neodymium magnets.

That should see it though this weekend and Cheltenham then can look to do the Graphics, etc.

This is roughly what I'm working from:
