I am waiting for a PCMCIA right angle adapter in the Wanted section on Amibay, but I suspect I'll be retired before one of those rare hens come along :p

So, as an interim solution, I was wondering how I could get the machine onto my home network via parallel using Parnet or something that's easy to configure and use.

Even if I could just access my local FTP server on my NAS I would be happy, let alone browsing the interwebz.

To clarify why I can't use any other solutions:
1. No right angle PCMCIA adapter for tower case.
2. Floppy drive connector has missing pin and floppy swapping is a pain
3. No expensive USB options :(
4. Though I have an SD IDE HD in there, pulling it in/out of the tower case, loading up winUAE and transferring files to/from in that way via my PC is a REAL chore.

I already have a parallel cable lying around, so I would love to hear your recommendations for the easiest and hopefully quickest options.

Though I've never used any parallel software as of yet, I've heard of ParNet, ParNFS and ParBench..

10-20 kb/s speed 115200bps

I saw that on your thread Deling, but it looks very complicated and beyond my abilities. Unless you can build me one?

I suggest plipbox as well. I know someone who builds such device, in fact I've bought one myself.

Write to Jenot, he's a friend of mine. He has built a batch of plip boxes. I think he's preparing a second batch.

Another good and maybe inexpensive solution is grabbing a serial-to-ethernet device (Lantronix).

It is a modem emulator that connects directly to cabled Ethernet (your router, for example). From them you can share the pc connection and even gopher the pc HD.

thanks:thumbsup: I check this project :p

hello, i remember there is a guy (on evilbay) how's selling : pc parallel port, cable and link to the soft for file transfert between amiga and pc.

Found this on fleabay here - I presume that's what you meant?

@Hivernaal - Not sure that's possible when my pc hasn't got serial ports. Maybe with a serial to usb converter?

These options are rather pricey and after contacting Amigakit, I think the best solution would be to wait until they have PCMCIA right angle adapters in stock again as I already have a few spare PCMCIA network cards waiting to be used..

PS. That parallel port cable I had didn't seem to do anythign. I suspect it's a straight through cable, as I've had it for years, but not sure where I bought it or for what purpose back then :picard

Don't be so pessimistic, I've posted my request of angle adaptor 10'th march, and 13'th march I was given an offer - so don't worry :)
And if asking for other options, plipbox seems best one although bit complicated.

Another option just occurred to me: Amiga Explorer.
It only needs a null modem cable (which I can also get from AmigaKit).
The only problem is my PC does not have any serial ports, so my question would be: could I connect my PC to Amiga using Amiga Explorer, null modem cable and some sort of serial to USB adapter?

I see on Ebay there are serial to usb adapters, I'm guessing this would be the right one to get here?

Another thought was, if there was some clock port to serial device to use on the A1200 clock port, would that work, and if so, faster than the serial port out the back?

Whoa!

The seller is asking a lot for the kit and the board does not have the enclosure!

Do a search in USA evil bay and they will show cheaper options. I bought mine for less than 50USD.

About the USB2serial: a lot of those are worthless because they miss some of the necessary signals. Check what other users have to make this solution work!

[EDIT] after a quick search I found lots of those in the ~US$50 range.
