Yesterday I released the first public version of my latest project. It is an Arduino-based PlayStation to Amiga/CD32/C64 controller adapter.

It is packed with features, like different button mappings, programmable combos, mouse mode, C64 mode, etc. Please refer to the documentation to find out more.

I know there are already other similar adapters out there, but mine is 100% open, both in hardware and software. So, while it might not be perfect, it can be fixed and improved. Also, it's based on Arduino, so it should be easy for anyone to tinker with it.

I hope you enjoy my work :).

Great work!!

Is there any lag or delay time while the Arduino translates or converts the Playstation controller movements to signals the Amiga can use?

Controller lag is pretty much subjective. Amiga games read controllers once per frame at the best, which is 50 times per second (60 for NTSC). The microcontroller on the adapter has no problems coping with that, as it's actually faster than most Amigas (it runs at 16 MHz) and it doesn't have much else to do :).

I'm finding it perfectly responsive, as far as I'm concerned. I have sent some boards to a few testers anyway, I'll report if they have anything to say on this subject.

can't wait to see the final design! we need adapters that support keyclone/remapping :)

Well, that *is* the final design . If you mean a physical board, here's an assembled prototype:

Just wanted to let you know that I have released a new version of this board and of its firmware.

It greatly improves compatibility, as PS1 controllers are now supported, even those without analog sticks which didn't work in the previous release.

It also opens the possibility to use all those excellent arcade sticks made for the PlayStation, such as the Namco or the Asciiware, both very good IMHO. Using them on your Amiga gives a great feel! It even works with the might Flightstick, even though using it as a digital controller really does not do it justice. I'll work to improve the situation for the next version ;).

Another news is the possibility to "rotate" the CD32 buttons so that they might feel more natural to those used to the original controller, just press SELECT when in CD32 mode.

Full release notes are available here.

Here is a kind of "Super Mario Edition":
