Nintendo Switch Console

No, I will not be buying one. At least not any time soon. I usually buy consoles when they become retro :-)

your PSP lasted 3 hours in actual gaming. When you read that Nintendo says the Switch will last 3hrs then you can be certain that it will last less....

Based on you never using one, and I'd hazard a guess never owning any other Nintendo products? If you don't like Nintendo, go and troll another thread unless you have something to contribute based on facts or personal experience.

I didnt know that i have to get a permission from you to write in this thread!Go and play with your little console to feel important...

Please keep the discussion civil.

I dont want to have to moderate this thread.

Thanks

Simply pointing out facts, how do you know the battery won't last 3 hours if you (and nobody else yet) has used one? Just talking nonsense. I obviously touched a nerve with the battery pack joke :)

"In a press release sent out following last night's Switch event, Nintendo says launch title "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can be played for roughly three hours on a single charge"

You do know how to read eh?

Anyway since the quote "Never argue with stupid people they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience" is one of the wisest things ever said and respecting the moderators wishes i'll let it go...

They (and other developers) may find ways to optimize the battery life when not docked. Clever programming to change the way some of the effects work on the smaller screen that might not have such a load on the GPU. I'd be perfectly happy for a graphic quality reduction like draw distance and AA on the 6" screen.

The Switch looks like a nice handheld. it's powerful and versatile. However, zelda and mario isn't enough to sell me a console. And I don't need a portable one. My kids is sadisfied with the ipad and the ps4. And my wii and ds have mostly collected dust since they were new. so. No.

And given the state of the core market for the switch, I bet it'll be selling great in japan, sell to the nintendo fans here in europe and america and not to that many beside them. Not because it won't be a good choice, but because Nintendo is not what Nintendo used to be. It's no longer the name attached to gaming at home. I don't know one single family that owns a modern nintendo console in circle of friends of my two kids or us. The people with wii u or 3ds I know is hardcore nintendo gamers. The kind that is so into Nintendo (or more) as I am in Commodore.

Got to say originally I was dead set against the Switch as it seemed just like an underpowered tablet with gimikey controls.

However I now absolutely love it. Mario Odessey sold it for me and since using it docked and in handheld mode I can see just how good it is. Looking forward to the Yoshi game hopefully later this year.

The only downside is the games and accessories are a bit pricey. OMG how much for a Pro Controller.

Always looking for cheap games, not found any yet :(

Certainly not buying the second rate mid range PC competition known as the PS4 / XB1. Still massively disappointed with them. Hoping PS5 will be ground breaking like the previous generations were compared to PCs on their launch (PS3 only barely mind).

my lads switch is impressive especially with Zelda Breath of the wild due to it's size and portability.

I got Zelda BOTW for my Wii-U and it looks better (very slightly) in places.

The Wii-U is more in use atm just purley down to cost and the lack of games we are willing to spend £60 + on.

for me (going back a while)

what impressed me 1st time i seen:-

C64 music and graphics when I had a Dragon 32

Amiga 500 1.3 being amazed at Dpaint and 4096 colours to choose from, F/A 18 Interceptor, Sound tracker and thinking I'd never fill 512k ram.

Panasonic 3DO , my 1st games Need4Speed, return Fire,Road Rash and Gex amazed me.

My dads 486sx/25 playing DOOM where my A1200+GVP Jaws 40mhz didn't even come close.

The 1st time I loaded Warcraft II, Doom and Duke3D with my new AWE32 and couldn't believe the difference.

My N64 on release day, Mario 64 and Pilot Wings couldn't believe something so small looked so good.

My Olivetti P75 and installing an orchid Righteous 3DFX for the 1st time and my jaw dropping with Tomb Raider

My Athlon 700 and upgrading (or downgrading on how you look at it) my ATI Fury 32mb to my new VooDoo 3000 16mb and couldn't believe the frame rate in Quake3

My Dreamcast, pulling the Sofa to the TV and playing Virtua Tennis with the Mrs into the wee hours of the night.

Xmas day and The mrs bought me an Xbox with Halo and Munch's Oddysee I couldn't put Halo down being amazed and gop smacked on how good it was.

My PSP (another xmas present) basically a PS2 in your hands and couldn't believe how good it was, she got me 2 films also, Akira and Kung Fu Hustle amazing.

My Xbox 360 (another present :D ) gaming in HD on our TV, this time it was Kameo and Viva Pinata into the wee hours :D

1st time I tried an Oculus DK1 and the Planet scene + House.. OMG.

disappointments...
PS3 meh! , xbox one, Meh! some xbox 360 games look better than some Xbox one games.
xbox one X,, not interested atm.. Meh! Meh! (not got a 4k tv anyway)

PS2 Phat, loading times sucked compared to Xbox and was promptly sold
PSX blocky bendy 3d graphics,, wasn't impressed until Crash Bandicoot, GranTurismo and Metal Gear hit the scene.
My 1st 3D card PowerVR really (REALLY) good with the one game that it supported, Ultimate Race Pro. any other D3D game my S3 Virge was as fast and looked better.
Amiga 600 2mb/20mb, ran slower than my A500 1mb+52mb HDD with 4mb fast ram I ehm! upgraded from !!! . no fastram addon for A600 and was sold to get an A1200.

stung 3 times (technically 4) by Microsoft.
Xbox 360 Kinect, promised so much but ended up a clunky gimmick
Xbox 360 HD-DVD, got a bunch of films, really good PIP etc better than Blu-Ray but dropped.
Xbox 360 Force feedback wheel & pedals, Brilliant,, promised PC drivers for force feedback which never happened.
Xbox One Kinect Much better but again, clunky and eventually dropped. (Xbox one S and X don't even have a kinect port, you need an expensive converter)

Get Zelda on Wii-U that's what i'm doing. I usually buy consoles years after they've been released so you have lots of good games to play immediately and all of the bugs and duff manufacturing problems are sorted out by then too. Not to mention it will all be cheaper then too :)
I just realised i made this comment on the thread and have to say I had a change of heart. I bought it the day after release, walked into Asda and they were on the shelf still so bought one, haven't regretted it and there's plenty of indie games on the cheap (and physically released too).

I've not really enjoyed much from Nintendo since the N64 days and some of the GameCube titles, But I've been thinking about picking up a cheap Wii-U to mess about with (homebrew, backwards compatibility and it's HD unlike the old Wii). The Switch is still a bit more than I'm willing to pay though. It's just a shame all the Wii-U consoles are glossy scratch magnets .

Got the Switch 3 months ago, just for the exclusives and for that unique feeling of owning the newest console. I knew what I was getting into, that it's awfully underpowered compared to concurrent consoles, but I wanted something of the Nintendo flavor - I had the GBA SP ten years ago and enjoyed some games very very much.

Getting a screen protector is a must have, than a memory card and of course Zelda :D
Already own all 5 games on this system: Breath of the Wild, Kingdom: New Lands (played on Steam but even better on a handheld), Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy and Golf Story. ;)
ProController is a nice addon, and with the MayFlash USB adapter I can connect almost any pad to the Switch and Switch pads to my PC.

That tv is very nice. Does the ambilight effect really add to the overall experience?

The tv is just an old 40" Sony Bravia, the Ambilight was custom made for me by a guy who knows what's he doing based on the Hyperion project.
It depends on the game you play or movie you watch, some look better some not really ;)
I'm not using it for everything so I wouldn't get bored, but for slower pace extremely colorful games like BotW it looks nice as the video shows, and for movies, man, Blade Runner 2049 was nerdgasmic.

Not that it can't do fast moving images, I just find it distracting.

Something over 650zł, I did a few modifications so it's hard to tell, changed the HDMI cables to shorter and better shielded, a higher amp USB psu, better digital to analog converter, a HDMI source selector to connect both my PC and Switch at the same time, etc.

Thanks for that, it really does look nice. Will have to take a look into the technical side of it a bit more and see if it introduces any lag and how precise it is with fast motion and stuff because it looks like it would really bump up the immersion.

The weakest link are the leds unfortunately, as you probably can see in my movie they don't sometime switch from colorful to full white immidiately, so there's a very tiny almost unnoticible lag during swipes from side to side.
And if your tv has a much smaller surrounding frame than mine it would probably look much better. Althought it might be a matter of taste, I think I wouldn't like it if there was no frame.
