I usually abide the seller's preference of payment, of course I use my common sense and decide it based on the seller's rep and the amount asked.
As a seller I prefer gift but don't mind if buyer want's to pay it as goods.
In my opinion, Amibay would be a much safer place to trade if sellers were band from trying to bully buyers into paying them by gift payments. “Paypal gift or else pay an extra xyz for my fees” RUBBISH, if this was only about fees, all the seller needs to do is add a little extra to the asking price. What it’s really about is the seller knows that if they get a gift payment and something goes wrong, they will hold the upper hand in any dispute and if they don’t want to refund the buyer, there’s nothing anyone on Amibay can do about it.
Paypal provide a service and some one as to pay for it. Right or wrong that person is the one selling; if you don’t like this then don’t use paypal. I wonder what paypal would think about the owners of Amibay allowing there members to sell goods and ask for gift payment, doing them out of there fee.

this is a valid point, but just as equally, you can't bully sellers into not using the gift option.
i personally use gift all the time, maybe i am stupid and maybe it will bite me one day, but i am a strong believer in the community and in people.
maybe i trust too much but so far with however many feedback i have and i have left for others no problem.

It should be compromize and watch out community together for more safety. That's all.
. If you decide to use a more expensive method of paying, then it's on you. Pp gift is the equivalent of a bank transfer, but much cheaper. Would you also expect the sellers to accept master card and pay the fee? Or would you rather every seller added a premium regardless of what payment method the buyer wants?

Also, if you pay someone as goods but only want untracked/cheap shipping - the seller has NO recourse if it goes missing or you claim it doesn't arrive..
I have had someone TELL ME the item has arrived, but filed a dispute and won because they went with untracked shipping at their risk.
Now, if the buyer chooses untracked, they pay as a gift. Else it's going tracked and they are paying for it.
Remember, it's not just buyers that get screwed. The PayPal system is very much on the buyers side, not the sellers at all.

We do not favour any one payment method over any other payment method and there are many out there. We recognise that people choose to pay via different methods, however, how they decide to conduct their business as adults who understand what they are doing is upto them.

As a seller, I do not accept PayPal Goods as a payment method. It's either gift or preferably a direct bank transfer. Those are my terms, if you do not like them, do not buy from me. If you are unsure of my trustworthiness, you can check my feedback score. At the time of writing, it's 72 out of 72 successful transactions.
I really can't say fairer than that. It's down to you as a buyer to decide whether or not you're prepared to meet the terms a seller is asking and remember the famous adage "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
Amibay does not place any restrictions or requirements on what payment method(s) a seller accepts, it's one of the great things about this site, people are given the choice to do what they think best. People don't have to accept PayPal at all if they don't want to.
Of course, if I'm buying something expensive from someone I don't know all that well, I'll prefer to pay by PayPal Goods.

I always pay as a gift when needed, and i myself prefer gift as payment when i am the seller. For very large amount, i then only trust IBAN transfer.
As a seller, there is always the chance that the buyer damages an expensive piece of hardware, then claims his money back to Paypal.
The solution is to use an trusted website like Amibay and buy/sell to trusted members of the community.

That's because most credit card companies and some bank debit cards charge a fee for the use of the cards to the retailer/seller.

I setup instant bank funding on my PayPal account so I can pay by gift without any fee's even if PayPal is empty, the money comes out of my account by Direct Debit a few days later but is sent to the seller instantly
I have had a bank account added for years, but it doesn't seem to be available for direct transfer. Perhaps because I'm in Denmark. Do I need to do anything special? It's simply not available as a payment option.

If I remember right I had to add my bank account with routing number etc .. could be wrong, pretty sure it was more than just adding my bank's debit card

Yes and it also has to be validated by paypal making two small payments into it which you then confirm to paypal the amounts paid.
I do as fitzy does - just make a payment from my paypal account wether its got any money in it or not. The payment is made straight away and it comes out of my bank a few days later.
