Hi Peeps,

I'm after a mid range PCI-E Graphics card for my spare PC, somthing like a 9600GT or 8800GT would do as not looking to break the bank.

The oversize cards like 8800GTS wont fit in my case, and besides they probably all overheated and died by now

Cheers

Steve.

8800GT is mid spec these days? :( (just shows how much i dont play pc games anymore lol)

Sorry should have made it clearer, mid spec to match the era of the machine it's going into, AMD X2 4400+ 2.25ghz & 2GB Ram so that would be a mid range card for this setup, no sense putting a current mid range card in it and I've alway found new low end cards to be utter ****e

Don't really want to spnd over £20 + shipping

Steve.

How about..
i send you a prety haggard ati HD 3870 for free :D
(postage would be nice if its more than £1 lol)

now bear in mind i dont treat gpu's with any sort of respect.
but it works.
well atleast dx 9 works for sure.

I wouldnt be to confident in its dx10.1 abilities any more, but it did used to work ok. "but last bench tests i did in dx 10 just got me a black screen.. Could have just been driver issue but i upgraded any way"

Any way if you want to throw it in a xp system or similar dx9 i think it will serve you pretty well.

its a reasonable card.

probably best copmpared to a 9600Gt if your more of a nvdia stats kind of guy.

i didnt sugest it sooner because it is a prety long card.
I can measure it if you want.

and il even give it a little bit if tlc before i send it off.

@ShambleS1980

That would be great :bounceBoingBall:

If it's on a par with the 9600gt that would ideal.

Is it a fullsize card though? It might not fit as it's a small ATX case :(

Let me know,

Steve.

I will measure it the only other spare card i have is a low profie 8400gts Its not that great of a card honestly.
but i like to have atleast 1 PCI-e card 1 AGP and 1 PCI gfx card spare. for those "Just in case" situations.
any way il brb with measurments.

ok its about.
9 inches long
4 and 1/4 inches Tall.
and an inch and a half wide.

will it fit?

Mate, with a post like that you will end up in the Guiness book of records, never mind the quote contest 2012.

TC

Inch and half wide sounds like a bit of a let down compared to the rest of the spec...

Boxed Zotac 9800GT 1GB Ram.

It's the Green Version meaning it takes power from the PCIe Slot. No need for a GPU Power connector of any kind. ;)

Only one owner from new about 12 months ago.

Good card.

Steve you have virtually same spec as me.
Last upgraded 5 years ago exactly.

AMD X2 4400 CPU,
MSI Mobo,
4GB 667MHz RAM,
750GB HDD,
Zotac Nvidia 250GTS 1GB.

I learnt the hardway about card size.
I decided to pimp out my Zotac card with a new Heatsink and fan.
It was a struggle to fit it in. Had to use sata ports 3 and 4, cause it was so big it covered the first two ports, lol.

I jammed that on there.
GPU temp went from 62Degs (idle) - 92Degs (full tilt) to 28Degs (idle) - 38Degs (full tilt).
I have been running my card since new on 850MHz core clock and 2GHz Shader Clock. New heatsink gives me some piece of mind though, as I can hammer card without worry of it cooking, :).

PC may be outdated now, but I can still run all the latest games maxed out fine, :). Mass Effect 3 runs lovely on it.

No deal with D.B

@ShambleS1980

Thanks for the kind offer but this card is too big :(

@Thread,

I will pay a little more (£35-£40+ P&P) for a matching set of 8800GT or 9600GT's for SLI

For use with this classis Mobo
